I have no idea. :)
Event ID 20 - WHEA-Logger - AMD Northbridge
Since resolving an issue with my ATI Video Driver recently, I have started getting the following errors, once a day, which cause my system to restart unexpectedly.
I believe this to be a driver issue, even though it looks like a hardware issue.
When it happens, I am usually watching TV on it via my XBOX Media Center Extender.
Event ID 20 - WHEA-Logger
A fatal hardware error has occurred.
Component: AMD Northbridge
Error Source: Machine Check Exception
Error Type: HyperTransport Watchdog Timeout Error
Processor APIC ID: 0
The details view of this entry contains further information.
My Computer is a Dell XPS 7100 with an AMD Phenom II X6 1045T Processor and ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series graphics adaptor.
All Dell diagnostics run cleanly and successfully.
Can anyone advise what to do to investigate further please?

2017-12-19T15:05:16+00:00 Well, it's happened four times in four days since the Fall update that got loaded to our Windows 10 home HP laptop on 11 Dec. HP support was no help (even under warranty), and initiated a system restore to the 16th, which is still reinitializing files an hour later.
I think that in all likelihood Microsoft hasn't seem to notice this is a problem. And since this thread started four years (nearly five) ago, they probably have dismissed all of this as old news.
Help?

2017-12-18T20:32:02+00:00 No, I have not had a reboot since I turned off fast startup. I think startup takes a bit longer, but I've become used to it and I don't find it a bother.

2017-12-18T20:29:21+00:00 I had the problem again today, and I came across this possible solution, which may have worked for someone else.
I turned off "fast startup". I don't know if this will help or not. I have not been experiencing this issue often, so I won't know for a while if this helps or not until more time has gone by. I had this happen on November 20 and then again today.
To turn off "fast startup", from within the Control Panel, choose Power Options. Then Choose what the power button does. Then "Settings that are currently unavailable", then remove the checkmark from "Turn on fast startup (recommended)". Save the changes, turn off computer. Then turn it back on. Booting up everything takes longer, which might be annoying, but experiencing possible file corruption due to these reboots would be a lot worse, I think. YMMV.
Good luck. I'll post one way or the other if this works. I would give it a couple of weeks before I would deem the problem resolved.
I'm also facing this same issue...
I've applied your potential fix and so far my computer hasn't rebooted (only a day in).
Have you experienced a reboot since you changed the Fast startup setting?
