Hello

I got a call from a guy with a really heavy Indian accent claiming to be working with Microsoft.

He told me that my computer had multiple problems.

He then told me to hit the Window icon on my keyboard and R (Which is to activate Run)

After that, he told me to type in "www.ammyy.com" and hit enter.

Right when he said that, I got suspicious.

I checked their website and it seemed legit.

I decided to google "AMMYY" and I saw "AMMYY scam"

I checked lots of posts having the EXACT same thing

-Indian guy

-AMMYY

-Computer problems

-Work for microsoft.

I hanged up and shut down my computer just in case. (I"m paranoid)

I turned back my computer on and the guy called me again.

He asked me why did I hanged up and I told him it was an accident.

He asked if I downloaded AMMYY yet.

I told him this "I ain't getting my computer hacked today, buddy." and hanged up again.

I ran a full computer scan with Trend Micro Titanium Internet Security.

(Which I trust since it went with my computer)

So my question.

Who are these guys?

How many people work with them?

Why aren't they sued yet?

Is my computer safe?

You're fine. They cold called you and have no access to your PC since you didn't install anything or allow them to connect to your PC.

Avoid scams that use the Microsoft name fraudulently - Microsoft does not make unsolicited

    Ladies and Gents,  First and foremost I wish everyone a really good day and hope your well.  Secondly, this thread is great.  I feel bad for those who have actually followed these idiotic suggestions of letting others access to our computers and all we are about., meaning keep your private info private.

    With the advent of social networking, serious threats from abroad and cyber crime at it's peak, no one is safe.  Be well.  I apologize in advance but these people and we will get them, are hiding in some hole in some 3rd world who only reign terror on England and the US has been going on for quite some time but whose time will end soon,  Trust me,  Drones are in play here as well as the free world.

    I work nights so I was P.O.ed when they called at 0AM.  I kept the phone call going for over an hour by posing as a 70 year old man. When I said I wanted to get my son on the phone, they insisted that I not do so.

    Eventually after an hours worth of delay tactics, when he asked me for the tenth time what I read on the screen, I said "It says you are a thief who is trying to convince me to allow him access to my computer....etc"

    THe guy swore profusely, told me to "<removed>"

    His command of the English language , when it came to profanity, was remarkable.

    The Windows ID is the same on every computer, that's how they know it.

    I got called today,

    "Hi, I'm William from Microsoft, etc. etc., are you in front of your computer?"

    "No, not yet."

    "Please take your time sir."

    I decided to smoke a cigarette and take a shower, the guy stayed on the line until I was finished!

    "Okay, I'm at my computer."

    "Sir, can you see the control key on the extreme left?"

    "Yes."

    "What is the key next to it?"

    "Wait, which control key?"

    "On the left."

    "Which left?"

    Etc., etc., etc....

    (10 minutes later)

    "Please type in that box, www.ammyy.com"

    "You mean into google?"

    "No, in the box."

    "Oh, okay."

    "Tell me what it says please."

    "It says, 'Hello

    Angry noises and the guy hangs up.
