Had the same problem and DiaconuDaniel's solution worked for me as well - took a while to recreate the index but then everything was fine - Thanks

Hello Everyone. Since I disabled all file types under Indexing Options, one at a time, I haven't seen Microsoft Search Filter Host at all! It's been over 30 days now! I check several times a day, and nothing!

That's 1 problem I have fixed with 8.1 pro 64 bit. Now, if I could just get full control of Antimalware Service Executable!!!! That is another problem I have been working on! When this little **** kicks in I just walk away!!! It's All I can do, other than shutting the computer off and beating it with a HAMMER!!! It takes it's own sweet time and renders the computer useless while Microsoft is probably Kicked back laughing at us all!!!! If you stop it, windows shuts down!! Sure could use a hot fix for this one!!! I have read every post on this site. And so far I haven't a cure for this yet!! It just does what it wants, regardless of what I want!!!

But Microsoft has given up!! Moved on to windows 10, and took a **** on XP, that worked. If anyone finds a cure for this problem, I will be the first person to say thank you!!! Windows users shouldn't have to deal with all these problems. Microsoft thinks they OWN us. They can do whatever they want. We live in the age of remote control. If you don't see what you want just change the channel!!! In this case you can just switch to MAC!!!!!!!!!!! That will solve a lot of problems!!!! Wake up Microsoft!!! Your days are numbered!!!

One down and 1 to go.

      Muchofreeo.

    LOL! Your rants are hilarious.

Dude, you have got to take a chill pill. I have none of these problems and I use a Surface Pro 3 and had 8.1 and now 10 on my pc. They've all worked beautifully.

Antimalware is part of Windows Defender. It's baked into the os and you can turn it off if you want. It's system protection that i've used for a few years now and has worked so well, it has replaced my need for a third party anti-virus. You can also schedule times for it to update and run maintenance. You have to set this at a time when you don't need to use the computer for important needed things during the day.

If you are having problems, take a moment to post the question and someone kind will likely chime in that's in the know.  No need to go on a rant like you are and recommending going to a different os isn't going to solve any problems if you can't be level headed about it enough to know it could be specific to what you're doing. Going to another platform isn't going to fix anything if it's user error.

Please stop with your hyperbolic rant and assume everyone has your problems.
