Arc Touch Mouse Scroll stops working

Hi,

I'm using Win 7 (32 bit) with the MS arc Touch mouse software and drivers installed. Running on HP TX2 Touchsmart Tablet.

I'm facing a problem with my mouse with regards to the scroll function.

After "switching on" the mouse, there is a green led light and everything seems to work. The green LED then disappears, presumably to save battery.

However, after a short period of time, the scroll function will not work at all. There is no scroll "feedback" felt from the scroll strip either. But when I flatten the mouse and turn it back on again, everything works as per normal.

But after some time, the same problem resurfaces. Then, I have to turn the mouse off and back on again. Sometimes, the scroll function "turns" itself back on automatically. But most of the time, it just stops working altogether.

This is very irritating. It seems nobody else have encountered this issue.

Please help!!

    Alas, I must concur. I have a first generation Surface Mouse with the USB dongle and it works great. I also have the most recent generation version without the tactile feedback and it too works great. However, the Bluetooth version with tactile feedback is a lemon. Microsoft should just offer a free trad-in for it.

    I dug into this a little deeper and it seems like the culprit might be the double stick tape that is sandwiched between the scroll pad and the mouse.  The double stick tape is used to secure the scroll pad to the mouse.  I think what is happening is the double stick tape is acting like a conductor and causing the sensor strip underneath the scroll pad to "short out".  By popping out the scroll pad and then removing the double stick tape, this prevented the sensor from shorting out and the scroll functionality seems to be working great again.

    Here's how to pop the scroll pad off.  From the top of the scroll pad, use your fingernail and push down on the pad.  From the side of the pad, use your fingernail to pry the pad off.  Caution!!! Pry from the top, there is a clip on top that unhinges to pop loose the pad.  It does not pop out at the bottom as that is where the sensor wires runs from.  Once you pop the sensor off the top, you should be able to see the double stick tape.  Again, use your fingernail to remove the double stick tape then once removed, snap the pad back down.  Turn your mouse off and on again.  It should be good to go.

    I had the same issue for my mouse out of the box, one thing I found which makes it work again is rest your finger on the middle mouse button (bar) for a second or two and it starts working again. Hope it helps.

    Hi All,

    After 91 days, my Arc Mouse continues to work properly, so I'm satisfied that this design, unlike the previous one (Arc Touch, Surface Edition), isn't flawed. 

    To anyone considering buying one, do your due diligence and see what others have said. From my own anecdotal experience over the course of three months, though, it works.

    Hi There,

    Twenty-eight days after I bought the new mouse, it's still working properly. 

    The new one is easily recognizable: instead of a scroll strip, it just has what looks like a track pad. The surface of the mouse is smooth, divided into two regions: the upper one that I just mentioned can be pushed down to click, and the lower one is just for support.

    This is a much better design than the fatally flawed earlier Arc Touch, Surface Edition mouse.
