Arc Touch Mouse Scroll stops working

Hi,

I'm using Win 7 (32 bit) with the MS arc Touch mouse software and drivers installed. Running on HP TX2 Touchsmart Tablet.

I'm facing a problem with my mouse with regards to the scroll function.

After "switching on" the mouse, there is a green led light and everything seems to work. The green LED then disappears, presumably to save battery.

However, after a short period of time, the scroll function will not work at all. There is no scroll "feedback" felt from the scroll strip either. But when I flatten the mouse and turn it back on again, everything works as per normal.

But after some time, the same problem resurfaces. Then, I have to turn the mouse off and back on again. Sometimes, the scroll function "turns" itself back on automatically. But most of the time, it just stops working altogether.

This is very irritating. It seems nobody else have encountered this issue.

Please help!!

    Hi,

    Thanks for the update. I was really interested in that mouse but didn't know whether to take that chance or not. Now, I'm really considering it. I don't really know whether the one I find on the site is really the 2017 model, as there are some comments dating from 2015. What's your mouse model number?

    Thank you!

    Thanks for the update, Steve! That's great news! I love the idea behind the mouse but have been so annoyed with how it (doesn't) work that I've mostly given up using it. That said, the new 2017 model has me intrigued and I only haven't bought one because of the high dollar amount. But, knowing that your experience has been good so far makes me all the more anxious to pick one up.

    I would personally love to continue to hear about your experience good or bad in the coming weeks.

    Again, thank you!!!

    It makes me wonder if they would accept the old mouse, along with some sort of upgrade fee, to get the new mouse.

    Phone up MS direct (should be a free phone number wherever you are).

    The mouse has a two or three year warranty, they should replace / exchange it free of charge. I did it and the new mouse has the same issue but only maybe once a day rather than every few hours.

    Have the serial No. to hand, under the batteries I think.

    Hi Franc,

    Microsoft replaced my original mouse twice. Actually, they let me keep the original. For nearly three years now, all three of the Arc Touch, Surface Edition mice that I've owned have exhibited the same defect. Scrolling stops working until you power the mouse off and on again, which you have to do constantly. It's not worth calling Microsoft again, because even if they gave me 1,000 brand-new Arc Touch SE mice, they would all exhibit the same defect.

    It's interesting that the old wireless (non-Bluetooth) Arc Touch mouse had this defect. The current mice have the defect. If the new Surface Arc mouse that'll ship in June has the flaw, I think that there ought to be a class action lawsuit against Microsoft.

    These mice are expensive. The profit on them is probably $70/mouse, if not more. I'm only surprised that there hasn't been a mass protest against Microsoft.

    What might cause this defect? I can think of a few possibilities, including:

    1. Windows power management;
    2. Windows Bluetooth driver;
    3. Mouse firmware;
    4. Mechanical flaw in the mouse; and
    5. EMF interference.

    Perhaps it's some strange combination of two or more of the above.

    It took Microsoft 880 days to fix a serious, show-stopping Windows bug that caused thumbnail previews to disappear: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows\_10-desktop/windows-10-taskbar-thumbnails-preview-keep/c74dfbe8-db09-4d5f-b7a2-f7a2f0fc7da4?page=26.

    Just as with that customer experience-destroying disaster, the Arc Touch SE mouse is a complete fiasco. Relative to other parts of Microsoft's business, these mice don't generate enough revenue for Microsoft to care, or prioritize work to fix the defect, assuming that anyone at Microsoft is even aware of it.

    We can't let Microsoft get away with ripping us off!

    Steve

    Hi all,

    After having to make it flat to power down and up to have the scroll function working again, I found a solution as recommended in Amazon product review. It seems to be working better now.

    Please download the windows store app called Arc Touch Bluetooth mouse and scroll down all the way in the settings to find the middle tap and choose "disable middle tap". This seems to effectively stop the intermittent problems with scrolling function in the middle strip.

    All the best!
