Surface Pro 3 Type Cover Not Working, In BIOS/UEFI or Windows 10 after 1803 Update

Sadly it does not always work, but my video of my type-cover working on another device has caught their attention.

Here is what I have done.

I found a friend with a Surface pro type cover and set both machines up with the Device Manager display and then swapped the type covers over, this demonstrated that my device cover works on another machine and that the other type cover did not work on mine.  I made a video of the activity and have sent it to MS support; I expect to receive a new device soon, feel free to do the same and even share your video.

Finally i go solution.

1. download the surface revery image.

2. then create bootable USB

3. Boot Power - Volume in recovery mode. follow the instructions.

Complete the windows setup & connect your type cover. It;s working.

>And then you can manually install whatever you want by accessing the firmware folder and right click install the .info files.

So without any hacking or modification, please confirm you were able to install

the older firmware, overwriting the newer firmware, AND this restored type cover

functionality? (It sounds like that this really did not work.)

As indicated from the instructions, they won't allow you to install an older version.

The Firmware Update Tool is not too interesting. It's something that will add an item "Microsoft Surface Firmware" in your device manager that'll allow you to update firmware. And the way to update is to copy the package to somewhere in EFI partition of your motherboard, then set a special flag in boot loader to tell it to invoke firmware update function in UEFI on the next boot.

So to enable firmware downgrade, you'll need to compile a version of firmware that have greater version and removes firmware version check on update. Then install it and use it to load the lower version you want to install.

EDIT:  The TPM update is not it. And seems none of the files here are the firmware package.  Will need to find it elsewhere.

Anyhow, as I said it seemed that the firmware was indeed being installed, since I could see a lower version in the bios screen while fully restoring my Surface.

I was never able to achieve the typewriter revieve using the flat battery method they mentioned above.. I let it run completely flat twice, and also let it flat for 3 days in total. But it was never revived.

I am also thinking that this is Microsoft way of saying "f*** off" go buy newer product. Its been like these for few months and they haven't fixed something seemingly sooooo easy..

So prob was intentionally the same apple reduces CPU speed on their products to make you re-invest in their RnD.

If we can find. Never the less unless we find a proper flasher for the bios (similar to what most PCs have) we are out of luck.
