Surface Pro 3 Type Cover Not Working, In BIOS/UEFI or Windows 10 after 1803 Update

My Surface Pro 4 Keyboard with Touch is no longer being recognized by my Surface Pro 3 after updating to 1803.

I have disconnected and reconnected dozens of times.

I have cleaned my connectors on both the Surface Pro and the Keyboard unit.

I have uninstalled the keyboard in Device Manager, as well as the mouse however the only things showing up there are HID compliant Mouse and Keyboard, nothing that says Surface or Type Cover.

I have hard reset the device several times (Volume Up and Power), also booting into UEFI/BIOS several times where the keyboard also does not work.

I registered my device with Microsoft to of course be told it is Out of Warranty.

I am in the process of downloading the Recovery Image from 2015 from a trustable 3rd party website since I cannot find any links to the recovery image on Microsoft's website.  This will I think put me back in time to before the 1803 update as far as Windows is concerned, however I am not sure if that will fix my problem since it is not being recognized in the BIOS.

Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated.

It's literally a 5 minute application to the ACCC. These services will only work when there are enough people raising the same concern. I'd suggest to spend 5 minutes to explain what you have tried and discovered in your own experience. It's worth a shot.

I’ll be interested to hear what the ACCCC says. I’m in Australia too and would like to do the same, but have too much to do at the moment

I stop reading after "Select Wacom Device".

That's because only Surface Pro / Surface Pro 2 uses Wacom component. On Surface Pro 3 onward Microsoft switched to use N-trig (which is now acquired by Microsoft) instead.

Also, if you experience problem like others here, you should not be able to see "Surface Type Cover", because it's not even detected on the motherboard level.

How long do we all have to wait to get the fatal bug of the Windows release on July 2018 fixed by Microsoft?

After 2 months of discussion and endless formatting / reinstalling also -- NO Solution from  Microsofdt.

And yesterday ,  they send mail   claiming they gave alternative...( totally False ) -- Really -  If they make support this difficult -- slowly nobody will buy these...

    HI  Al

You didn’t gave me any alternative offer.   You Said  Microsoft  Can’t  help on this.   I said there are over 5K people complaining on the same issue – if you check the support forum ( Community ) on Microsoft website.

Let me know what alternative you are giving..

    MICROSOFT SURFACE

    Hello Hari,

    Good day!

Thank you for answering our follow-up call earlier. As we have discussed during our phone call. Your Surface device will not recognized your type cover and you already reset using USB recovery image and still having the same issue. We infomed you that Microsoft already discontinue Manufacturing Surface pro 3 devices. We offered an alternative option and you declined the offer. We will archive this case as we have agreed earlier.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know by responding to this email.

    Hi all,

Notch up another user who has fixed their SP3 type cover issues by completely draining the battery. I ran it down to the point where the white battery symbol showed, then kept pressing the power button until it was unresponsive. Held the power button down for an additional minute or so to ensure that the battery was drained (did this several times). Re-attached the type cover, left it for 10-15 minutes, then attached the power cable and pressed the power button. The keyboard lights came on straight away. Typing on it now. Hopefully it is fixed for good!! Have set the power options to do nothing when I close the lid. Any other suggestions to ensure the fix holds?

I have done this procedure at least ten times (I now have an SP4 to use). ONE TIME the keyboard lit up, worked, then the dang SP3 died for want of sufficient charge, and it is back to no keyboard for multiple subsequent attempts.

    Useless.

So, my success was short-lived. I decide to test it out and reboot the machine, while it still had significant charge. Keyboard is dead again :(.
