My Surface Pro 4 Keyboard with Touch is no longer being recognized by my Surface Pro 3 after updating to 1803.
I have disconnected and reconnected dozens of times.
I have cleaned my connectors on both the Surface Pro and the Keyboard unit.
I have uninstalled the keyboard in Device Manager, as well as the mouse however the only things showing up there are HID compliant Mouse and Keyboard, nothing that says Surface or Type Cover.
I have hard reset the device several times (Volume Up and Power), also booting into UEFI/BIOS several times where the keyboard also does not work.
I registered my device with Microsoft to of course be told it is Out of Warranty.
I am in the process of downloading the Recovery Image from 2015 from a trustable 3rd party website since I cannot find any links to the recovery image on Microsoft's website. This will I think put me back in time to before the 1803 update as far as Windows is concerned, however I am not sure if that will fix my problem since it is not being recognized in the BIOS.
Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated.

There appear to be two faults with the same symptoms - type cover not working.
one of these can be fixed by various resets and Win10 reloads, the other I am still working on. Even reformatting the drive and loading win7 and then win8 and migrating to win10 is proving problematic.
I'm based in the Seattle area, in case any Redmond-based engineers fancy investigating a unit with this issue.
Others have made the same offer, but no one ever took them up on their offer. If
you have channels other than this forum to pursue this, try escalating through
them.

I will go to a physical store the next time I am near one and will see what they will do.
Microsoft won't acknowledge that this is a product defect and when the agents do
reply, they treat each case as an individual hardware failure. Both SP3 and SP4
are impacted.
Only some have found that when they drain the battery to zero and then plug in,
that the typecover works again (for a while) which suggests a dotted line to a
root cause involving power/current/etc. But not everyone can repro this.
It would not bother me as much if Microsoft acknowledged the problem. I think they sent us an update that they cannot overwrite and that our machines are permanently toast as far as the type cover is concerned. If they said "Yes, we screwed up and we will give you another machine for a reasonable price (not their inflated "repair cost") then I would upgrade and be more likely to buy another Microsoft computer in the future.
The Pro 3 has been a solid machine for me up until this incident. It is the best computer I have ever had and I enjoy using it. Even now I will happily use it in a dock with a second monitor, Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, and have a very nice desktop. But I need to be able to take it on the road sometimes and use the type cover.
Right now I don't need the Pro 3. I am off work for a bit and I use another computer at home. I'd like to get it ready for my next job and right now that looks like buying another one. I really hate to give Microsoft any more money under the current circumstances.
