New Surface Pro i5 8GB here.
I have also noticed that it shuts off randomly. Has done it twice now. Is this hardware related?
Does it need to be replaced?
This is so weird.
Running on the latest stable public branch version of Windows as of writing this. (fully updated)
I had to manually perform the firmware update when I realised that Windows Update did not update me to the latest 233.1763.257.0 firmware.
Prior to this I checked the firmware version via the Surface app then I downloaded the Surface Diag app but it didnt seem to do anything for me. I then downloaded the MSI manually and installed it leading to a restart which flashed the device.
Going to run it and see if my random hibernate / shut off issue goes away.
Maybe this is precisely why people are still at times posting about this bug (December 2017) with an alleged fix existing since July.
Maybe Windows Update just never installed the fix for people???
Update:
I made sure to flick the settings related to power and bluetooth off and on in the UEFI BIOS then proceeding to saving and exiting since there is no "reset to defaults" option. On other laptops I have dealt with before this was at times needed even if a
BIOS was updated / downgraded to properly purge some settings.
Been running the tablet for a day now without any hibernation issues.
I have tried running 2 1080p movies side by side on low power options on 0% brightness to see if I could force a hibernation event without luck. However I am not certain if this is a guranteed method to cause hibernation.
Will report back if the issue occurs again.
