My type cover does not work and I left my surface aside the battery drained. I put it in the socket and the type cover worked. What will it be?

    Doubt it.

I just won't be buying a detachable keyboard from Microsoft until an expert on here tells me that the new surface pro 9 or whatever they will call it doesn't have this issue. If it takes them 6 versions and they can't prevent a software update from breaking their own hardware ... Then they have issues.

I will buy a 15 or 16 inch laptop next. I heard a 15 inch may come out in early October at announcement

    Hi Chris,

I've an SP4 with exactly this issue, live in the UK and am interested in pursuing the route you took.

Seems that the sale of goods act has been superseded by the consumer rights act which sounds similar.

    Salient points:

    • If a fault develops after the first six months, the burden is on you to prove that the product was faulty at the time you took ownership of it.
    • In practice, this may require some form of expert report, opinion or evidence of similar problems across the product range.

Does this forum adequately address this?

    Thanks in advance.

My type cover is working better than ever After experiencing this problem over the years.

I suspect the software updates are slowly addressing the issue.

When it does happen I take the type cover off and flip it around so you're typing upside down and reattach it.

hey then take it off again and reattach it and it works. For whatever reason this reversal of the magnetic seems to do the trick.

At the time I wrote the post, October 2017, this was the situation. We now know

that there are SP3's in the US with this issue and that Microsoft has not

acknowledged that these are anything but individual system failures. They have

not acknowledged any trending or commented on the cause.

Barb, I am facing the same problem for months, but I found a different behavior in terms of workaround.

I realized that when the keyboard is not working (surface type cover), if I remove it from the surface and after that remove the surface from the outlet power (meaning that it will be running in the battery), than reconnect the surface type cover, it its back working.

It's still an issue but has a workaround. Anyway, I hope that Microsoft fix this, since I also agree that is unacceptable to pay more than USD 1.500 in a device and having this issue without any answer from a giant such as Microsoft. I also replaced my keyboard (USD 93) thinking that the problem would be it. And along this journey, the power supply (USD 70) also had to be replaced, since Microsoft created it to be replaced. The cables are so thin, that with the regular use, they break and stop working.

The keyboard is working perfectly now at 0% battery. But not for long. This is pathetic. MICROSOFT. NEVER AGAIN
