Type Cover not Working but ...

My type cover does not work and I left my surface aside the battery drained. I put it in the socket and the type cover worked. What will it be?

    I love other Microsoft products like surface studio 2, but even had some minor problems with their Bluetooth keyboard losing connection. I want a wired keyboard and wired mouse from now on.
