My type cover does not work and I left my surface aside the battery drained. I put it in the socket and the type cover worked. What will it be?

After trying everything suggested by everyone, which by the way did not fix the problem, I took my Surface Pro 3 to a Geek at a Big Box store and guess what?  They had the same problem with their Surface Pro 3.  They told me I could leave my Surface Pro 3 and they would check it.  The cost would be $100 to $150 but “NO GUARANTEE” they could fix it.

    Interesting, RIGHT?

I’ve also come to the conclusion that this Microsoft Support site is nothing more then a place for us with problems to vent and IS NOT being monitored by Microsoft.

    Unbelievable!

Pretty easy then, as an I.T. professional in the Microsoft technology stack, I'll simply ensure that I don't (personally) buy any further Microsoft products.

I don't want to sound snobby, but I'm not prepared to take a refurbished model when this wasn't - as far as I'm concerned, as hardware failure.

Nothing from Microsoft staffs heard within a year.

No announcement on when (or even whether) there will be a fix. No announcement on whether there will be free repair/replacement. The "possible firmware update that caused this" is still on shelf and not taken down, so we still see new victim of the update one year later.

I'm going to register account and tail Microsoft Ads on the new Surface device, to "remind" any potential customer to consider "the possibility of device suddenly stop functioning after an update after warranty" before buying until they got this fixed. As long as I stick to the facts they should have no excuse to remove it.

I really don't want to do this, but it seems to be the only chance to let the upper management responsible for Microsoft device hear this and fix their err.

Looks as though there's nothing more coming back from this thread.

    Anyone?

I have to revise the behavior described above. As soon as I disconnected the Surface from tthe power supply, it did not work anymore.

The battery drain was also 5% per hour with Cover attached and 3% per hour otherwise.

    But...

I was just trying to reinstall Windows (version 1809) and disabled SecureBoot (removal of BitLocker protection) and suddenly the Type Cover works again, even after rebooting and reattaching the Type Cover (Without new windows installation).

    EDIT:

2 hour later the type cover stopped working again.

After booting from usb for a clean wiindows install it worked again (robably not for long)

I think it just wants to fool me
