Type Cover not Working but ...

My type cover does not work and I left my surface aside the battery drained. I put it in the socket and the type cover worked. What will it be?

    Your issue is a little different. Yours is intermittent.

    Can you run

    winver

    and advise both version and build number reported?

    Version 1803 (OS Build 17134.254)

    Well, technically firmware problem is also hardware problem, however it's not "mechanic failure" kind of problem, but "bug on software on your motherboard chips" one.

    With hundreds of people who runs everything fine before update, then lost their keyboard immediately after the update, reinstalling Windows won't help, and some reported their SP3 loading with Linux that works fine too before the update, fails to detect keyboard too after the update, the probability on having "mechanic failure" on hardware is very close to zero, and I can't really think what else is possible if that's not caused by firmware.
