I have same problem or similar :( :( 

I have a Surface pro 3 i7 with MS  keyboard. The SP 3 keyboard only detects once in a while and i have not found any pattern to it !!! what is interesting is that the surface pro 2 keyboard works fine on SP3 and SP3 keyboard on SP2. (by the way i am using MS genuine devices!) I have also tested with SP4 keyboard ... same issue ! :(

So i suspect this is more of a software issue rater than a hardware !

This is what i have done:

1. i had windows 10 tried two button restart windows updates and had no luck
2. i have now down version windows to 8 done two button restarts and windows updates had no luck
3. Contacts have been cleaned
4. SP3 reset both during windows 10 and down version to windows 8.
5. Windows updates are set to Automatic and i assume they are up to date as per Auto update
6. Tried type covers for SP3, SP4 and SP2 none of them work on SP3 unit. All of them works find on SP2.

Once in a while WHEN the type cover gets detects it would be a matter of removing it or screen rotation or sleep/waking up that would again fails to detect. Once detected i can see in the device manager that the hardware is intact! Once detected i have tried updating the driver, as a result then falls apart again.

Same problem here!  Microsoft doing us dry!
