Battery Drains While Shutdown

I also am having the same issue with my battery as described in this thread.

My battery was not taking any charge at all - So I factory reset my Pro4 and did the generic Windows update and it started to charge. But then it stopped again. So I followed the steps of un-installing the battery drivers via Device Manager and doing a hard reset and my Surface Pro 4 is charging again. But it doesn't hold charge when shutdown (via the Windows Icon in the bottom left hand corner) it will go from 100% to flat in 24hrs - when Shutdown.

I am now following the steps for downloading the drivers and firmware you mentioned above and hope this fixes the issue.

I tried option 1 first. 100% charged when I went to bed, I turned it on after 16 hours and 0% drain (yeah I'm happy now). That seemed to be the problem. It is obvious that the Surface doesn't really turn off with "connected standby" on. It takes 2 more seconds tu shut down and another 2-3 seconds to start up which is great because it is still super fast when you turn it on so that's "problem solved" for me. What a silly feature, to be honest, pretty useless considering how fast the device is.

I think I'm gonna try option 2 as well with "connected standby" on to see how it goes. I'll get back here if I do to tell how it went.

Is "connected standby" still a thing in Windows 10? This was quite an old thread from 2015

When did you start experiencing this battery issue? From when I first purchased the Surface pro. over a year ago.

What troubleshooting steps have you tried so far? MS OS updates and tried to turn off anything that might be using the battery while in sleep or shutdown mode.

What annoys me the most about all this, is that there is no need for tablets to have a battery that is almost impossible to replace. In a period where everybody is trying to recycle stuff, that manufacturers make phones and tablets which are basically designed to be scrapped once the battery dies, as the cost of replacing it means you are better off buying a new one, is ridiculous.

I hadn't used my SP4 since last posting here, and was pleasantly surprised when I switched it on and saw that it still had 60% battery left. I should have known better though, as it did what it has done before and the battery drains really quickly, meaning that somehow it loses track of the actual battery level when left for a while. 

 The so called 60% battery left, drained in about an hour. I wish there was a company out there that could do easy battery replacements. But most I have seen, do warn that the screen could be damaged and also need to be replaced when swapping out the battery. 

 Never buying a Microsoft branded tablet or laptop ever again. The customer service, and lack of proper replies from them here, has put me off them for life.

Same problem.  Frustrating - 33% battery drain per day.  It's impossible to shut down this tablet and not have the battery be dead in 2.5 days.

I disagree.  I don't think that Microsoft really cares what the users do.  I think they know that this is a manufacturing defect for which the only solution is a replacement, but they don't want to acknowledge that because it will be too expensive. 

Clearly, after the hundreds of unanswered posts here, Microsoft is just avoiding the issue.  I have given up trying to get their attention this way, and have begun writing letters to the editors of PC Magazine and other entities that rate companies and computers; maybe in the face of a critical article or a request for answers/interviews they will be forced to address the issue.  I am also writing to Consumer Reports and to the BBB, and to public relations people at Microsoft. 

They can ignore a thread like this, they can ignore a few hundred users - but they don't want the bad publicity.  Maybe. 

From their point of view, it's easier to close their eyes to this problem and hope it goes away rather than have to replace thousands of batteries.  The bottom line is that they are in the software business, and if another company can sell better tablet computers with better support, they will still make money from putting software on them.
