My surface pro 7 is exhibiting a mouse “stall” and freeze. It also happens when using a wireless mouse, which would seem to indicate a software problem, not a mechanical problem. Reading these descriptions of a systematic product flaw makes me wonder why Microsoft has not exchanged your pad to recreate and track down the problem? That’s what a reputable manufacturer would do.
Surface Pro 2017 touchpad mouse freezing
I've got a new Surface Pro 2017 and today the mouse pointer being driven by the touchpad has started freezing for 1-2 seconds.
All the latest updates are installed.
I've removed the mouse from device manager and then ran Scan for new Hardware.
I've removed and re-installed the lastest Surface firmware package.
But it still does it, however it only seems to happen when the device is on power. It works fine on battery.
Any ideas?
Regards,
Greg

2020-04-26T11:42:45+00:00 I have had this exact problem on my surface pro 2 and my surface pro 6. For me, on both models, the mouse and keyboard functions will completely freeze and remain that way until I disconnect the typecover. Once I disconnect and reconnect the cover, then all is well until the next freeze. None of the suggested solutions make any long term difference. Yanking the surface off the typecover and snapping it right back on once every 30 - 180 minutes to clear the frozen screen has just, rather absurdly, become a standard part of what it means to use a surface. Talking to MS support is an exercise in pain and empathy watching poorly trained but enthusiastic foreign call center "techs" run through the same 5 failed solutions, in order, over and over again to no avail.
As others have postulated, there is clearly a fundamental flaw with the Surface design that has permeated through 7 generations of the product and MS has refused to fix it. I love the idea of the surface, but will not buy another one until MS comes clean and admits there is a problem, fixes it, and makes it right for those of us who have suffered through this nonsense.

2020-04-21T22:35:17+00:00 "Did you try and remove the pre-installed microsoft 365 using the MS tool and run the machine with no software (lean) installed on it?"
Yes. In fact, I have found trackpad cursor freezing on the very first setup screen of a new Surface Pro, the screen where Cortana is asking you to choose language. just after you have switched it on for the first time This before any software is installed.
Instead of choosing and clicking next, I moved my finger around the touchpad a bit and sure enough it froze after few moments.

2020-04-21T20:27:14+00:00 I'm going to try and use a bluetooth enabled keyboard/touchpad combo as a last resort. If this works, then the Signature Type Cover keyboard(s) will be returned. If not, the surface pro 7 gets returned and I search for something else....

2020-04-21T20:04:51+00:00 I am sorry to hear that. I have been following this thread for sometime time now alongside with other issues I had with MS lately to the point where I am canceling my future purchase of a surface laptop 3.
