Surface Pro 2017 touchpad mouse freezing

..... I have read about this previously, tried it, and found that it does not fix or even reduce the problem.

My SP7 is on its 4th day of no freezes after turning off Panel Self Refresh and turning it off for both "On Battery" and "Plugged In".

Your three cases and other cases reported here and in other areas of the internet suggest there may be various problems with the Surface Pro products. For example, while you can sometimes bring yours back by touching its back or plugging or unplugging the charger, that never worked on mine.

This Panel Self Refresh thing was recently highlighted by someone running two monitors off their Surface Pro. While the embedded monitor froze, the second monitor did not.

Install the Intel Graphics Command Center from the Microsoft Store, opening it, going to System>Power>Panel Self Refresh and turning it off for both "On Battery" and "Plugged In"

UPDATE: 5-19-2020

It's been a week and a half since turning off Panel Self Refresh as noted above. Since then there have not been any freezes or stalls.

I have had 3 Surface Pro 7 machines from the Microsoft Store in March and April 2020. All have come fresh out of the box with an identical fault, namely that the touchpad on the signature typecover freezes when the SP is running on mains power. It even occurs on the very first setup screen, the one where Cortana is asking you to choose your language and before any user software is installed. As I move my finger on the touchpad the cursor freezes in place. The cursor can be unfrozen by detaching the power cable from the side of the Surface Pro - but this should not be necessary. It makes the touchpad unusable when the Surface Pro is running on mains power. This behaviour has been observed by Microsoft agents operating my computer via logmein and they have verified that software/drivers are uptodate. Agents have promised escalation and priority attention. Many hundreds of customers report the identical fault with the Surface Pro in numerous posts on answers.microsoft.com and reddit.com.

I see the same problem occurring even when my Surface Pro the power supply plugged-in to a battery backup and surge protecting power supply, and with every wall outlet in my home. I have a Surface Laptop at use in the same house and it has never displayed this fault.

Well I've had my Surface Pro 2017 for quite a while and have noticed this problem from time to time but assumed it had something to do with my fingers. I usually use the Bluetooth Surface arc mouse and not very often the touch pad - that is probably why I didn't bother much looking for a solution. Today when this happened again, I looked for some answers and came to this thread. What I can concur is that:

• It happens with the charger plugged in - I have a third party charger
• It is intermittent - it happened with me in the evening this time round, however, I haven't monitored it so much to be able to say it only happens then
• My software is usually up to date

I haven't tried out all the solutions mentioned here, such as touching the back of the tablet (I have a protective cover), dimming the backlighting ( I had to find out how to do it), setting the track pad sensitivity etc. I even learnt how to get a battery report! Thank you, very much for all those who took the time to report what they have tried and the kind of responses they have experienced.
