Surface Dock USB ports not working - Dock Updater repeatedly fails

I have Surface book 13.5, and Surface Dock. USB ports on the dock are not working.

Running Surface Dock updater says I need to power cycle the dock, although I already did it several times.

Event viewer reports error code 12105, with message: "Failed to update USB hub firmware."

Surface Dock is an ABSOLUTE piece of JUNK!!!   I am now on the 3rd dock.  Only to know it has the same issue as the others.  HDMI, Ethernet, USB ports ALL drop 3-5 seconds and maintain that loop indefinitely.  I have applied every update, been on the phone support to no avail.  These guys actually tried to tell me they have not heard of this issue, if you can believe that!  I had to send the links to forums like this showing this has been an issue since 2016.

All USB, HDMI, Ethernet Cabling and devices are in 100% working order on ANY other type of connection.  Once the surface dock is connected, they all stop working.

Have applied ALL Windows updates and the surface dock updater, which took 4-7 different tries. The dock would not stay connected long enough to get through the firmware update.  Once it finally did, the HDMI and Ethernet have stayed connected, USB however, drops in same loop cycle.  I leave the Surface Laptop long enough to sleep, then come back, the dock does not work at all. I have to power cycle the dock, unplug all connections, then reconnect on power cycle.  MICROSOFT... IT IS A DOCKING STATION - HOW CAN YOU SCREW THIS UP, SERIOUSLY!!!!!!

I can guarantee if Mr. Gates was using this piece, the issue would have been resolved in a week.

Bottom line as a Surface laptop user, which I love the laptop, I am forced to buy a different brand or use the USB for a 3rd party dock, which is probably fine.  The current Microsoft dock is 100% unreliable and cannot be used.

I have the exact same problem. Dock was working fine when I left the office on friday.

Today it worked for half an hour or so, then mouse and keyborad died.

Switched to another dock, worked for another hour...same thing again.

Now we have two broken docks, dock updater fails with above message.

    Two observations though:

    1. It seems to not be related to my surface book (although my book might have killed the dock), since we tried two other surface books on both docks and also there, the USB devices don't work anymore (both surface books have never been used with those specific docks). My book still works with two other docks (where I could also successfully run the dock updater today).
    2. USB devices work again once I use an active USB hub and connect the hub to the Surface Dock. So it seems like a power issue (although I cannot explain how this is possible).

    Maybe this helps anyone

There was a sharp increase in the number of replies to this post in the last 2 or 3 days, which means that Microsoft messed up pretty bad recently.

MICROSOFT, IT'S ABOUT TIME YOU FIXED THIS!!!

I'm curious as well.  Same problem.  Also tried to follow the steps i saw.  This arose as all of a sudden my mouse and keyboard attached to the dock is no longer responding.  I dont think this is a hardware issue.
