Surface Dock USB ports not working - Dock Updater repeatedly fails

I have Surface book 13.5, and Surface Dock. USB ports on the dock are not working.

Running Surface Dock updater says I need to power cycle the dock, although I already did it several times.

Event viewer reports error code 12105, with message: "Failed to update USB hub firmware."

However: I reversed the way the Power Connector is plugged in and it worked immediately, Make sure the small LED is facing towards the monitor.

This hasn't worked for me, even after cleaning all contacts. The thread seems to stop here, but I'm wondering if anyone else has been thusly perplexed still? Display works, USB ports do not. ;(

Nothing but problems with Surface Devices. Second Dock, second Surface Book, fresh installs. Surface Dock Updated app doesn't detect Surface Dock.

Did any answer on answers.microsoft.com ever work for anyone? I don't think so. This is a website where people come looking for answers that don't work. Especially answers posted by Microsoft forum staff, if you see the word Microsoft in the signature, skip it, it won't work.

After struggling for hours on this, I finally updated the bios on my laptop. The original docking port issue seems to have gone away.

I have not tested the dock firmware update yet.

I did as you asked, but upon rerunning the Dock Updater, I still get the same error.

    Hi,

The update may be running into a problem because of an underlying issue with Windows Update. To find possible corruptions with the Windows Update components, run the troubleshooter from this page. The tool also restarts the services responsible for carrying out the update process. After running the troubleshooter, restart your Surface and try updating the Surface Dock again.

Let us know if you need further assistance.

    Regards.
