I have an Apple Airport Extreme 802.11ac wireless router at home and am only connecting at a max of speed of 72Mbps (usually closer to 11Mbps if I'm more than 20 feet away from the WAP). I have two other 802.11ac laptops at home (Samsung AB9+ and rMBP) and my two other computers are connecting up at 800Mbps+ and pulling down the same on Internet speed tests; yes, I have real GigE connectivity. Is anyone else having these problems?

Been fighting my SP3 I5 since I got it Sunday as well. Overall it's a nice little setup. The 802.11ac works but dog slow... almost better if I stay with N instead of ac. Pen connects about 1/2 the time. Getting tired of it. Should have waited for the I7 version I preordered. Maybe they'd have had more time and hopefully gotten this straightened out. Thought that by SP3 they would have it down pat....
Will try deleting the driver to see how that goes. If not it's rebuild and back to Bestbuy.
actually that's a big mis-conception , apparently when the power is removed the wireless card is transmitting at the lowest mandatory data rate. case in point is on 5.0 default is 6mb.... in the end, the wireless card will need much more air time to transmit the same data it could do when at a higher data rate. so it will cause more power to be used, since the wireless card is using more radio that it would have to at higher data rates.
this is a bug and not by design that I can assure you....

I wouldn't expect huge speed improvements with future drivers, as the issue is more along the line that the wireless power is being throttled to accommodate power management/battery performance.
considering all the problems of the latest driver when will there be an updated driver (heck even a beta one would be good) having problems like everyone speed slows down when not plugged in, wake up wireless issues etc... I cant roll back the driver (for some reason it got messed up so all it sees is the new driver) and I am not going to reset my whole system for a driver problem right now...
so when is the new driver coming? if not for a while, where can I get a beta driver for some of the fixes or the OLD driver that came with the system before it went through all the windows updates.?

Unfortunately there's not much else to do besides wait until MS issues a fix. There are several threads on the topic. Some of the work arounds work, some don't.
If you plug it in that helps speeds, but quite frankly we shouldn't have conjure up a work around for this. MS needs to fix this asap!
I say flood the Surface twitter acct until we get a response. It really is unacceptable to release this kind of product and have such a major WiFi issue.
