i5/256 Surface Pro 4 overheats and battery drains while 'sleeping'

Split from this thread.

My SP4 gets very hot and drains the battery very fast even though it is asleep. I found it very hot in its sleeve and down to 28% earlier today. Found it dead later in the afternoon. This is one of MANY issues this device has.

(My SP4 is not part of the insider program)

Hi All,

We released an update on 2/17/2016 that addresses this issue.

We recommend that you install this update to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings> Update & security> Windows Update.

To confirm the updates are installed, check Settings> Update & security> Windows Update> Advanced options> View your update history.

Thanks,

Josh

The post in reddit seems to be related to Surface Book. Is it applicable for Surface Pro 4 as well?

For those who are experiencing battery drain or other issues after the latest firmware update, take a look at the following post and follow the instructions.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/Surface/comments/49g46p/i_am_going_to_make_one_post_to_convey_a_fix_for/

It seems that Surfacebooks shipped with a corrupted system file and this is causing issues.

Using the above instructions I have fixed a corrupt system file on my machine, and it is behaving much more normally now (1-2% drain in sleep - most of the time).

On my third unit (not including a surface book that I returned for an SP4), all of which have have same issues with fan constantly running, burning through ridiculous amounts of battery while supposedly sleeping, and failing to resurrect itself from a sleep.   All updates have been installed and nothing seems to work.  This is without a doubt the single most frustrating electronics experience I have ever had.
