Surface Pro 4 Keyboard not working / type cover keyboard driver missing

Hi.

I have a surface Pro 4 and the type cover keyboard is not working.

The driver has gone missing (just shows HID keyboard device) so I can't do what the other forums have said an uninstall the driver.

I have installed the SP4 driver updates and still not working.

I also did the two-button restart and disabled/enabled the keyboard in UEFI. No joy.

This is really frustrating. Other people have this issue:

I'm on 10.0.18632 Build 18632 MS Windows 10 Pro

Can anyone help with this?

I got my keyboard working again following the procedures described above. However, I had to add extra steps:

    • In addition to step 2 & 3, I had to uninstall "HID Keyboard Device" drivers. There were two or three of them listed under the Device Manager.
    • Ensure that the charger is plugged-in (not sure if this is related but my device was plugged in when I got the keyboard to work again)

My surface pro stopped working around two weeks ago, probably due to an update.

If yours is working count yourself lucky. Mine still isn't after almost two months. I gave up and bought an HP and at this point would never buy another surface pro

No surprise - doesn't take long on google to find out this is pretty common.

Hopefully Microsoft will reply before too long. Not having a working keyboard makes the device pretty redundant.

That said, the replies from MS to other people having the same problem haven't exactly been helpful so far (everything they suggested, I tried, only to find it was all a waste of time)
