Surface Pro 4 Keyboard not working / type cover keyboard driver missing

Hi.

I have a surface Pro 4 and the type cover keyboard is not working.

The driver has gone missing (just shows HID keyboard device) so I can't do what the other forums have said an uninstall the driver.

I have installed the SP4 driver updates and still not working.

I also did the two-button restart and disabled/enabled the keyboard in UEFI. No joy.

This is really frustrating. Other people have this issue:

I'm on 10.0.18632 Build 18632 MS Windows 10 Pro

Can anyone help with this?

    Thanks Ann

I tried the battery discharge thing twice and it didn't work for me...

Come on Microsoft - please give us an answer! It is close to a month now that my surface has been unusable with the typecover keyboard...

    Hi AnnRivett,

How long does it take to drain your battery? Does your Surface machine show wrong time upon powering on after you've drained the battery?

Hello I have been following this thread closely as I have the same issue.

I'm not an IT buff, and dont understand everything that is being said in all the threads. But I tried this and it works, you see the driver being installed/setup in the bottom right hand corner.

However if I charge the battery then close the laptop down, it all happens again and I lose my keyboard .

It flashes up a black screen saying "Locking" then I lose my keyboard and have to drain the battery again.

At least I can use it occasionally use it.

Just wondered if this may help

    Cheers

    Ann

Saw this at the following site: https://pureinfotech.com/windows-10-20h2-new-features/

    Tablet experience changes

Starting with Windows 10 October 2020 Update, the new tablet experience, introduced with the May 2020 Update, is the default mode when detaching the keyboard on convertible devices. This means that you’ll no longer see a notification asking to select a mode. Also, to prevent confusion with some users getting stuck in tablet mode on non-touch devices, Windows 10 is removing the tablet mode quick action on non-touch devices.

Furthermore, with version 20H2, there’s a new logic to let users boot into the appropriate mode according to the mode they were last signed in and whether the keyboard is attached or not.

I wonder whether this feature messed up our surface pro device. Anyway I'll wait till the next few Updates
