So I just spent an entire weekend without having the sleep crash problem -- even this morning, my SB was slightly warm when I unplugged it (which probably means it was doing more than it should have overnight, but it also means that it successfully remained
in sleep the whole time). That's a first in a long while.
I still have not run DISM or SFC since the most recent set of firmware updates. I'm trying to ascertain if this is really necessary to maintain stability between Windows and firmware updates. So far, I have not seen any BSODs nor anything other than the
sleep crashes, really. The updated Intel display driver is playing much nicer with Firefox and hardware acceleration than before (I got some pretty awful artifacting all over the place in FF just on basic web pages).
I just wanted to come back to this thread and clarify -- my sleep crashes mostly occur overnight when the SB is "sleeping" when I plug it in to charge for the night. Most times, by morning, my SB is completely powered off when I go to wake it by opening
the lid. It is also set to NOT enter hibernation while plugged in, which is why it should not be attempting to enter hibernation at all overnight as long as it is not already in hibernation when I plug it in. However, I should note that I have seen my SB wake
itself from hibernation in the middle of the night (seen in windows logs) so that I found it in a warm/hot sleep state in the morning when it should have been hibernating (it was hibernating when I plugged it in).
This issue is not consistent. Sometimes it is fine (like the entire past weekend) and other days, it will unexpectedly power down at any time during the day while sleeping on battery (I routinely wake and put my SB to sleep several times throughout a normal
day). For instance, I will close the lid on my SB around 7am and not wake it again until noon. It should be in hibernation on battery at this point, but there are times where it is completely powered off and goes through a complete boot sequence rather than
simply resuming from hibernation.
