Not that I'm holding my breath, but has anyone had any luck getting their keyboards working again after Surface firmware 239.2852.257.0? It's dated 9/4, but just got pushed to my Surface Pro 2017 yesterday. I know Surface owners have reported that it fixed
some battery issues, but it'd be a pleasant surprise to hear that some Surface Pro keyboard issues got resolved.
As it is, until Microsoft addresses the issue or can at least demonstrate it's been resolved, I won't be purchasing any future Surface Pro products. I'm interested in seeing how long it is before we hear of numerous Surface Pro 7, Surface Pro X, and Surface
Go units having the same keyboard detection issues.
Per one of my prior posts, the sole reason I have a Surface Pro 2017 now is a Microsoft Store manager let me get an upgraded one for an out-of-warranty exchange to replace my afflicted SP4. Given my 90-day warranty on it from July 9 was expiring right when
this firmware update arrived, I was nervously hoping it wouldn't cause a problem on this unit, too. I basically held my breath as it rebooted and was relieved to see the keyboard still worked. As an IT professional myself, I know that no user should have
to have that kind of feeling just from installing an update. As many of us have said, Microsoft should be replacing or fixing all affected units, in or out of warranty, at their own expense since it's their fault the problem occurred and persists in the
first place and can happen to users no matter how long they've had the systems. Making someone pay $450 with no guarantee the problem won't recur or being forced to settle for being stuck with no alternative but external keyboards is unacceptable. I wonder
how many of the units used by the NFL have run into this problem the past few years. That's one client I imagine Microsoft would not want to anger if they complained about it.
