Surface Pro 4 type cover suddenly not working.

I don't know what happened. I turned my Surface Pro 4 on the other day and the type cover is dead. No lights. No response. No indication that it's working at all.  I rarely take my surface anywhere.

This started on July 9th 2018. My system information is below. I've gone through all of the steps in the "Troubleshoot your Surface Type Cover or keyboard" page. I've tried to manually download and install the latest firmware and drivers from the "Download firmware and drivers for surface" page. I picked SurfacePro4_Win10_16299_1801701_1.msi. My device manager does not show the "Surface Touch Cover Filter Device" under keyboards or anywhere. It only shows the HID keyboard and cannot detect my type cover. The type cover is completely unresponsive. Also, my windows updates are completely up to date. I've provided the links to the troubleshooting pages I used below.

have the same problem with my sp4 since two days. The device worked fine and then after the vacation the type cover was no longer recognized. I already cleaned contacts, did driver updates and did a great error analysis. Still not working. It can't be that so many sp4 have a hardware error all at once. This must be due to the software.

I've done that three times, and still the microsoft surfae keyboard won't work. A third party keyboard will, and the surface keyboard works fine on my other Surface Pro

. I don't think this is the cause of so many people having the same issue.

I agree it can be a problem, but this goes beyond dirty connectors

    Hi RG,

I know what you mean, but in this case I do not beleive environmental factors are to blame.

My Mum has a SP4 which no longer works with the keyboard, her keyboard works on my SP6, but my keyboard no longer works on her SP4.

The contacts on the SP4 are clean and do not seem to be the problem.

There are too many people experiencing these issues and they do appear to be software related.

Microsoft really does need to pay more attention to this issue and offer a solution.
