Surface Pro 4 type cover suddenly not working.

Ok this is weird. Hard reset without keyboard did not work, then i did a hardreset again with keyboard. It did not work in UEFI, then it loaded to windows and it started to work:S This is really weird. Surface device filter is in device management again. Im scared of resetting now. Will turn off hiberbate, it was after that it was gone.

So, i got a refurbished surface last month after my keyboard stopped working too. Today my new surface keyboard stopped working. YAY. Had it one month and then this sh** happens again. So a new refurbished surface wont help sadly. Going to contact MS again. This is not ideal at all.

Got 1903 (happened on that update)

No updates today, so it seems its not an update that did it.

Say no keyboard is connected.

Trying KB4505903 (Win10 update 2019-07). = This did not help, but i wonder if some pre-installing of the drivers might have broken something. I did not need to download it and it failed the first time i tried to install it.

This time i can see that my sensors work (They died last time witch is directly connected to the keyboard).

Did an in-place upgrade and nothing. Really think the device is dead too.

MS is getting me throught the usual steps, but hope they dont just say i can get another refurbished, since i can confidently say that will not be a permanent solution.

Lets see what the say, will update when something new and noteworthy come up.

Here's the fix that finally worked for me: I bought my first iPad and an Apple keyboard. Not perfect, and not as good as my Surface Pro 4 used to be, but I'm damned sure not going to buy another Surface unless and until Microsoft addresses this issue. 

I will reiterate that I have tried every fix suggested on this form, most multiple times. Currently running the latest update on a clean install and still no joy. I keep the Surface on my desk now only to try the latest new suggestions. It's become kind of hobby I guess. 

I'm glad I'm not the only one.

My surface 3 gets occasional use. I was in a meeting the other day and started it up and boom the keyboard wasn't working, made the meeting super awkward.

I'm heading away on the trip tomorrow and I'm frantically trying to find another keyboard to use.

I take some solace that it isn't just my device but a larger issue across all devices.

I'm going to try running the battery flat and hope to god the issue fixed as I'm relying on this device.

I really hope Microsoft sorts this out as I'm so far very disappointed with this design fault.

Hi @re5pekt_spiro, can you advise what's the details of the release preview?

@Barb Bowman Agreed! We can't go permanent on the battery drain 'fix'.

@TodStewart1 need to figure out another solution. and constantly draining the Li-On battery on the surface pro is not good.

I checked with my hardware service repair shop that services laptops and tablets, the chief tech said that its more likely a main-board issue. I'm taking his advice with a pinch of salt tho, because the issue is intermittent and when its working, it really works great.

Again, I am still betting on either:

1. battery replacement
2. a new firmware/OS update
