Surface Pro 4 type cover suddenly not working.

I don't know what happened. I turned my Surface Pro 4 on the other day and the type cover is dead. No lights. No response. No indication that it's working at all.  I rarely take my surface anywhere.

This started on July 9th 2018. My system information is below. I've gone through all of the steps in the "Troubleshoot your Surface Type Cover or keyboard" page. I've tried to manually download and install the latest firmware and drivers from the "Download firmware and drivers for surface" page. I picked SurfacePro4_Win10_16299_1801701_1.msi. My device manager does not show the "Surface Touch Cover Filter Device" under keyboards or anywhere. It only shows the HID keyboard and cannot detect my type cover. The type cover is completely unresponsive. Also, my windows updates are completely up to date. I've provided the links to the troubleshooting pages I used below.

Just to provide my experience on this.

    Surface Pro 4.

I am now typing this reply on my type cover. On one of two of my type covers that had stopped working after an update that I couldn't roll back.

Tried all the usual suggested stuff, contact cleaning, hard restarts, uninstalling drivers etc, preforming all updates.

    My symptoms were the following.

Surface Type cover filter not showing in device manager.

when I would connect my type cover the screen would turn off, no keys or back lights would work, touch screen would not work. Interestingly the machine was still operational, I could vnc in.

Type cover would not work at all in UEFI.

Reading on these forums last night that upgrading on the insider programme to build 18362 had solved the issue for some people.

I signed up and installed the download, restarted and logged in (all with no type cover connected).

Once logged in I connected a cover and now it appears to be working flawlessly.

Note that I haven't switched off the screen, put it to sleep, closed the cover, rebooted or removed the type cover yet.  If it stops working I'll update this post.

So i wrote a couple of weeks ago that i got hold on a Microsoft T3 supporter. They took all the logfiles they could get and would get back to me with what they would find.

So the other day i got a respond that they could see that it was a firmware error, so now i got my second surface that now was out of warranty replaced:) So im pretty happy about that. I could never get any of the solutions in here to work. The keyboard and sensors was just dead after an update.

My surface have been out of warranty ever since i got a new refurbished last year (the screen flicker issue). I hope this is the last refurbished unit i get.

Hope you guys can get a hold on Microsoft too.

Replying to this post so I can keep tabs on this thread.

I have a (thankfully, for now) working SP4, but my friend has one that is affected by this issue.

I had mine replaced (for $450, out of warranty) for the battery swelling issue about a year or so ago, that's the only relevant difference I can think of between the two I can think of.
