Surface Pro 4 type cover suddenly not working.

I don't know what happened. I turned my Surface Pro 4 on the other day and the type cover is dead. No lights. No response. No indication that it's working at all.  I rarely take my surface anywhere.

This started on July 9th 2018. My system information is below. I've gone through all of the steps in the "Troubleshoot your Surface Type Cover or keyboard" page. I've tried to manually download and install the latest firmware and drivers from the "Download firmware and drivers for surface" page. I picked SurfacePro4_Win10_16299_1801701_1.msi. My device manager does not show the "Surface Touch Cover Filter Device" under keyboards or anywhere. It only shows the HID keyboard and cannot detect my type cover. The type cover is completely unresponsive. Also, my windows updates are completely up to date. I've provided the links to the troubleshooting pages I used below.

So i wrote a couple of weeks ago that i got hold on a Microsoft T3 supporter. They took all the logfiles they could get and would get back to me with what they would find.

So the other day i got a respond that they could see that it was a firmware error, so now i got my second surface that now was out of warranty replaced:) So im pretty happy about that. I could never get any of the solutions in here to work. The keyboard and sensors was just dead after an update.

My surface have been out of warranty ever since i got a new refurbished last year (the screen flicker issue). I hope this is the last refurbished unit i get.

Hope you guys can get a hold on Microsoft too.

sorry i spoke too soon, the problem soon got worse through the day and I am back to where I was before the OS reinstall. So starting the process to get the whole thing replaced under warranty now.

wow must be a lot of people reading this thread, at least I presume that is the reason, talking to microsoft they are getting a flood of calls about this issue right this minute

Talked to MS Support yesterday. An updated component of the OS is corrupting the keyboard driver.

Downloaded Win 10 from here microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 using the create installation media second option.

It has greatly reduced the intermittent issue, even recognises the keyboard on start up sometimes now.

I am getting the tablet replaced under warranty next. -how that fixes the issue remains to be seen, but they say it has worked for those that a reinstall of the OS hasn't worked for.

O and yes they are working on a solution, the guy I was talking to had already dealt with same issue previously, whats taking the time is figuring out how to deliver the solution via an update without everyone having to download the entire OS again.

That doesn't make any sense for them to say that, I'm afraid.  The OS itself has zero effect on it for me and a lot of others, unfortunately, since it's mainly a firmware issue completely independent of Windows in a lot of cases.  I've had my entire system wiped at the Microsoft Store and re-imaged to no avail as well as doing so myself via that same method.  Plus, the problem still occurs when booting directly into the UEFI menu, bypassing the OS, in which you should still be able to navigate without having to touch the screen.
