Surface Pro 4 type cover suddenly not working.

I don't know what happened. I turned my Surface Pro 4 on the other day and the type cover is dead. No lights. No response. No indication that it's working at all.  I rarely take my surface anywhere. 

This started on July 9th 2018. My system information is below. I've gone through all of the steps in the "Troubleshoot your Surface Type Cover or keyboard" page. I've tried to manually download and install the latest firmware and drivers from the "Download firmware and drivers for surface" page. I picked SurfacePro4_Win10_16299_1801701_1.msi. My device manager does not show the "Surface Touch Cover Filter Device" under keyboards or anywhere. It only shows the HID keyboard and cannot detect my type cover. The type cover is completely unresponsive. Also, my windows updates are completely up to date. I've provided the links to the troubleshooting pages I used below.

    Patience. you'll hear of all the colors but in the end you just have to wait for this fantastical firmware update. we are paying the cost of the incapacity to solve the problem

    This just happened to me. I was using the type cover fine, shut down, put away. Minutes later open up, type cover doesn't work.... ****!! Three hours trying all suggestions, no go. FFS Microsoft! 

    I had recently updated to 1809 build but the cover worked fine for days afterward. I don't get it.

    also done like everything the only thing i haven't tried is cleaning the contacts with rubbing alcohol and resetting to factory cause setting up mysql again is a pain. im getting some rubbing alcohol tho

    same here the keyboard was working fine untill about 10days ago now it just doesn't show up in device manager but if i hit like a ton of keys sometimes but not often it will force it on till i shut down or unplug the keyboard :( this 10$ keyboard has been my fall back because it has bluetooth like.... im going to college and need to write python and mySQL

    Hi,

    I have been having a similar problem with the type cover. It is working now after the latest update, however I have had intermittent issues with it since I purchased it which involves disconnecting / reconnecting the keyboard several times to get it to work again. other times it simply refuses to work at all or works after resetting the SP4, which to me points at software issues in the device.
