Surface Pro 4 type cover suddenly not working.

I don't know what happened. I turned my Surface Pro 4 on the other day and the type cover is dead. No lights. No response. No indication that it's working at all.  I rarely take my surface anywhere. 

This started on July 9th 2018. My system information is below. I've gone through all of the steps in the "Troubleshoot your Surface Type Cover or keyboard" page. I've tried to manually download and install the latest firmware and drivers from the "Download firmware and drivers for surface" page. I picked SurfacePro4_Win10_16299_1801701_1.msi. My device manager does not show the "Surface Touch Cover Filter Device" under keyboards or anywhere. It only shows the HID keyboard and cannot detect my type cover. The type cover is completely unresponsive. Also, my windows updates are completely up to date. I've provided the links to the troubleshooting pages I used below.

    There is an firmware update today for SP4, and it fixed mine...Ow Thank God I've been waiting for this day like almost a year..How about you guys? try to update..i'm writing this on my lovely alcantra type cover in which has been in my drawer for almost a year...I really miss the touch pad, the best touch pad other than mac.

    Can you tell us what is the firmware number ?

    Can you stop and restart your SF4 with your type cover (with hybernation also), disconnect and connect the type cover and tell us if it still works ?

    Does the new firmware solved all the issues (battery drain and type cover) ?

    Hi all,

    It's me again, so I just want to update you guys with my type cover status, since the last firmware update (dated Nov'18) which I told you fixed my typecover.

    So, the malfunctioning typecover happened several times (once a day) and I always managed to make it work again after few minutes. What I did just remove and reinstall it repeatedly, pressing Fn until it shows light repeatedly. Sometimes it takes longer than usual, but until now it has always managed to make it worked again.

    That's all guys..

    really hope you guys have solution..

    No luck.

    Another format. Started doing updates till version 1809 compilation 10.0.17763.292 and nothing.

    Surface type cover now shows on devices but no work.

    **** machine!

    Exactly my problem...have tried everything, formatted it endlessly, disk image format, windows update to current version, nothing works!

    Hi E_C_H_O,

    You can boot into the Surface UEFI to check if the Type Cover will be responsive. To boot into the UEFI, refer to this page. If it does not work in the UEFI, then it means that what you're having is a hardware problem. I would recommend that you take the device to a Microsoft Store or contact Microsoft Support for assistance.

    If the Type Cover works in the UEFI, then the problem is related to the software. Please run the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit to check for any errors. To download the tool, open this link.

    Well an un-responsive type cover problem is something that the diagnostic toolkit or Microsoft support can fix! I have been struggling with this problem on my replacement surface for the past many weeks. My original surface was replaced because of the screen flicker issue, now in the replacement, the keyboard only works in the UEFI setting....updated the windows to ver 1809 which is the latest but with no success. type cover is still unresponsive.

    For something that has a 'pro' badge, it is full of hardware and software issues!

    ok, powered on the SP3 today. there is an update. Firmware, type cover driver update. Very Excited! Download it and restart the machine. type cover still dead...UGH
