Well like a lot of people said.... they offered to correct their problem if I buy a refurbished one for 500$ or so.
Not going to happen. Obviously.

I don't know what happened. I turned my Surface Pro 4 on the other day and the type cover is dead. No lights. No response. No indication that it's working at all. I rarely take my surface anywhere.
This started on July 9th 2018. My system information is below. I've gone through all of the steps in the "Troubleshoot your Surface Type Cover or keyboard" page. I've tried to manually download and install the latest firmware and drivers from the "Download firmware and drivers for surface" page. I picked SurfacePro4_Win10_16299_1801701_1.msi. My device manager does not show the "Surface Touch Cover Filter Device" under keyboards or anywhere. It only shows the HID keyboard and cannot detect my type cover. The type cover is completely unresponsive. Also, my windows updates are completely up to date. I've provided the links to the troubleshooting pages I used below.

I'm not that happy at the moment....
I'm struggling with this problem for 1 year now (a little bit more than that).
Called, chatted with them nothing....
I'll give it a try and call MS store in Toronto and see how it goes, but not holding my breath.
Not under warranty
Located in Sydney
I have no idea whether it's a worldwide procedure, though if Microsoft management has any concerns about customer experience, it should be a worldwide procedure.
I have a new receipt, but other than that no documentation on how to fix the problem, which was my prefered solution.
being 1500 km away from a shop is a problem.
you'd think Microsoft management would offer their customers a postal option.
I'm sure most people would be happy paying for the postage.
Hi Paul that is great for you.
Was your SP4 still under warranty?
Where are you located?
Do you know if that is a worldwide procedure?
Did they provide you with some documentation?
My problem is I'm 1.500 km away from the nearest Microsoft store.... I called them 3 times now, it served no purpose!
Too bad there is no documentation or KB# to reference. Obviously YMMV at the MS Store as my experience was the polar opposite to yours, Paul. They said since the unit was years out of warranty they could not do anything and offered to sell me a refurbed unit at 80% of the cost of a new one. No thanks.
