Surface Pro 4 type cover suddenly not working.

I don't know what happened. I turned my Surface Pro 4 on the other day and the type cover is dead. No lights. No response. No indication that it's working at all.  I rarely take my surface anywhere.

This started on July 9th 2018. My system information is below. I've gone through all of the steps in the "Troubleshoot your Surface Type Cover or keyboard" page. I've tried to manually download and install the latest firmware and drivers from the "Download firmware and drivers for surface" page. I picked SurfacePro4_Win10_16299_1801701_1.msi. My device manager does not show the "Surface Touch Cover Filter Device" under keyboards or anywhere. It only shows the HID keyboard and cannot detect my type cover. The type cover is completely unresponsive. Also, my windows updates are completely up to date. I've provided the links to the troubleshooting pages I used below.

I gave up also. My SP4 is now a doorstop and I have purchased an X1 Carbon. No intention of purchasing another Surface product.

I've gave up waiting for Microsoft to acknowledge and release the fix for this issue.

The weird thing is that, this issue does not affect all the Surface Pro users, as my friend unit was perfectly fine with my type cover.

I end up gotten myself a Moko type cover for Surface.

The key travel is not as good compared to the type cover, and touchpad is significantly smaller.

However, the Moko keyboard is still a very good alternative to the Microsoft Type Cover.

At least now I've a working keyboard.

Here is the latest update from my observation on the type cover not working, I notice my type covers only works again when the surface pro 4 battery is drained to empty. Yip, it happens very often. Upon getting the battery drain complete and charge enough to start up the surface, the type cover work again.. atleast for awhile until the battery is charge to certain percentages than it stop working altogether ... grrr ... really pissed. but recently my surface suffer another issue, screen flickering too which render the unit useless and waiting for the replacement of the unit.

    Pfff.....

    you should check this

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4230448/surface-pro-4-screen-flicker

Microsoft will replace eligible Surface Pro 4 devices for up to three years from the date of purchase, free of charge.

I tried everything, and gave in and bought a Bluetooth keyboard that I did not like.  I then found a solution from a 3rd party source that I am using now.  I would have loved to have fixed my Surface and been able to use the type cover, but the device I am using now works well.  It is much heavier than the type cover, but also has a few features that I actually like better.

    I bought mine at BestBuy
