Surface Pro 4 type cover suddenly not working.

I don't know what happened. I turned my Surface Pro 4 on the other day and the type cover is dead. No lights. No response. No indication that it's working at all.  I rarely take my surface anywhere. 

This started on July 9th 2018. My system information is below. I've gone through all of the steps in the "Troubleshoot your Surface Type Cover or keyboard" page. I've tried to manually download and install the latest firmware and drivers from the "Download firmware and drivers for surface" page. I picked SurfacePro4_Win10_16299_1801701_1.msi. My device manager does not show the "Surface Touch Cover Filter Device" under keyboards or anywhere. It only shows the HID keyboard and cannot detect my type cover. The type cover is completely unresponsive. Also, my windows updates are completely up to date. I've provided the links to the troubleshooting pages I used below.

    the short answer is no - no solution but .....

    its not hardware - or if it is it is self- healing.

    many if us are having this same  issue - my wife's sp4 type cover stopped working about a month ago and i tried everything to get it to go with only one brief episode when it worked until....

    we were packing up to go on holiday and she took her sp4 together with a Moku bt type cover ( which works very well btw ).

    just before leaving i tried the msf type cover and bingo - it started working and has continued to do so for the last three weeks ( if course it may stop doing so at any time ).

    it seems to be a firmware issue and/ or something to do with the attitude sensors in the machine.

    as i posted before,  the only things i did which may or may not  be relevent was to play around with rotation lock with/ without the type cover attached.  also the psu failed and i had to get an oem replacement.  unfortunetly i cant remember whether this was when it started working again but it was within a day or so.

    My signature type cover was working fine on Xmas day, than on boxing..nothing.  no lights... no nothing.  under device manager it shows up and recognized after I deleted the drivers.

    When in surface UEFI mode,  select devices and toggle surface type cover option from on to off and on again the mouse cursor appears and the mouse pad on the type cover works.

    But once I exit and boot up... same thing no response from type cover

    I brought it to ms store and they reset my sp4 with latest windows.  still doesn't work and was told its hardware and would cost me $500 to replace since out of warranty.

    Has there still been no fix for this?

    I tried draining the battery completely, when done, the type cover still does not work, and no response as before.

    the cover basicly never seperate from surface pro 4, but yesterday the cover does not work any more, I tried many ways to fix, such as 2 button restar, reset, reinstall system. I think some random windows or firmware updates make the cover unusable!

    using colleague's surface pro with my type cover  , it works fine.

    Same issue I had. My SP4 was unusable for nearly 14 months.. read my previous post. Try draining the battery completely. I think that's what fixed it for me.
