Surface Pro 4 type cover suddenly not working.

I don't know what happened. I turned my Surface Pro 4 on the other day and the type cover is dead. No lights. No response. No indication that it's working at all.  I rarely take my surface anywhere. 

This started on July 9th 2018. My system information is below. I've gone through all of the steps in the "Troubleshoot your Surface Type Cover or keyboard" page. I've tried to manually download and install the latest firmware and drivers from the "Download firmware and drivers for surface" page. I picked SurfacePro4_Win10_16299_1801701_1.msi. My device manager does not show the "Surface Touch Cover Filter Device" under keyboards or anywhere. It only shows the HID keyboard and cannot detect my type cover. The type cover is completely unresponsive. Also, my windows updates are completely up to date. I've provided the links to the troubleshooting pages I used below.

    My sp4 keyboard doesnot work on a flat surface. I get a autorotate message and the keyboard stops working. But when i use it on my lap it works perfectly fine.

    So is it a software or a hardware issue?

    Hi guys,

    I had this problem on my wife's surface pro 4. The keyboard was completely not working, yet it would work fine on my surface pro 4. However, screen rotation seemed to work fine, so maybe it was a different problem. It was a botched windows update that was the issue, and I managed to fix it using the windows update troubleshooter (https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/help/4027322/windows-update-troubleshooter), and after re-downloading and installing the latest update it is all now working! I hope this works for you guys.

    My sp4 typecover stoped working as described by all of you.

    I drained the battery and it helped for a limited time and then it stopped working again.

    I noticed that the typecover problems occurred after the last w update, so I drained the battery again then I started the sp4 and uninstalled the last update and restarted the sp4 again.

    Right now the sp4 typecover works fine, hopefully it will continues.

    I suggest people try this method as my experience is similarly related. My type cover stopped working in Oct 2016. I tried every software-related suggestion with no success. After shelving my SP4, unused for the better part of a year, my type cover started working yesterday when I powered on. The last thing I did was drain the battery (looped a video on max brightness with all battery saver settings disabled). I want to believe the problem is definitely hardware-related and requires a complete power cycle of whatever circuitry is managing the type cover to reset it to a working state.

    *Note: I tried the battery drain one time before this, but my type cover still didn't respond after powering on. The only difference between then and my recent attempt was letting it sit unused after draining. I suspect this gave the battery more time to truly deplete.

    As of now my type cover is working normally. Hoping it stays that way.. -fingers crossed-
