Surface Pro 4 type cover suddenly not working.

I don't know what happened. I turned my Surface Pro 4 on the other day and the type cover is dead. No lights. No response. No indication that it's working at all.  I rarely take my surface anywhere. 

This started on July 9th 2018. My system information is below. I've gone through all of the steps in the "Troubleshoot your Surface Type Cover or keyboard" page. I've tried to manually download and install the latest firmware and drivers from the "Download firmware and drivers for surface" page. I picked SurfacePro4_Win10_16299_1801701_1.msi. My device manager does not show the "Surface Touch Cover Filter Device" under keyboards or anywhere. It only shows the HID keyboard and cannot detect my type cover. The type cover is completely unresponsive. Also, my windows updates are completely up to date. I've provided the links to the troubleshooting pages I used below.

    i hv the same problem. and dont know how to correct it. sp4is very expensive. i ve forgone alot to give sp4 a chance. now the MS management is quiet. you have no balls.  do the right thing. MS make tons from faithfuls like us the long suffering supporters.  hypocrites. altruism hidden behind the veil of greed. 

    Do a job that your mother is proud of! ...whosoever you are in the MS castle who is the decision maker responsible for this plights...

    dont keep quiet. corwards!!!!(

    So I tested that version of the diagnostic tool and all my sensors and compass worked, only the type cover says

    " this tool doesn't support third party keyboards. Please click continue to skip this test."

    And I had the Bluetooth keyboard that I'm using turned off.

    My cover don't light up or work since an update back in 2017 (I had problems in the first big update that the type cover give problems).

    I talked yesterday and today with the MS support and the only alternative is to delete everything (for the 5 or 6 time).... nothing as expected and final result since there is no warranty if I want to pay 450 $ plus tax I can get another one..... HUM.... ye not going to happen, my next computer is going to be a regular lap top.

    The only way I'll get other surface is if it's for free, with my money I'll buy something else.

    I didn't try that new tool (i don't have my sp4 here right now) but i would say it's the same thing, i'll let you know tomorrow.

    Mine doesn't work what so ever.... I had the problem in june or july 2017 and it worked 2 or 3 times since then, but only for brief moments. 

    Mine only has the type cover problem the screen rotation is working perfectly (i shouldn't say this because it might stop working in the next update).

    Long story short for me this is just ridiculous, for a computer this expensive people shouldn't spend this kind of time and effort to try to fix something they broke.

    MS products are done for me, only if there is no other option.

    @P4ulB: Nice tool.

    I confirm - as expected none of my sensors are working and type cover is not working too. Pressing "repair" and rebooting didn't change anything.

    My type cover (and all sensors) works sometimes for 1-2 days, then after plug it to power and reboot it stops to work for some days again.

    Hi,

    I've found a better version of the Surface diagnostic tool which provides additional tests for the sensors and type cover.

    When running it on my device, it appears that none of my sensors are working including the compass and accelerometer!

    Can anyone else run this and see what results they get?
