I don't know what happened. I turned my Surface Pro 4 on the other day and the type cover is dead. No lights. No response. No indication that it's working at all. I rarely take my surface anywhere.
This started on July 9th 2018. My system information is below. I've gone through all of the steps in the "Troubleshoot your Surface Type Cover or keyboard" page. I've tried to manually download and install the latest firmware and drivers from the "Download firmware and drivers for surface" page. I picked SurfacePro4_Win10_16299_1801701_1.msi. My device manager does not show the "Surface Touch Cover Filter Device" under keyboards or anywhere. It only shows the HID keyboard and cannot detect my type cover. The type cover is completely unresponsive. Also, my windows updates are completely up to date. I've provided the links to the troubleshooting pages I used below.

As everybody, the surface cover has stopped to work suddently (sp4).
I have tested the cover on another surface and it works.
I have tried every tips of this discussion post without any sucess. The last chance is the full reset but i dont want.
By the way, i had also the flickering gate and i solver it by replacing the screen by sp5 screen. Not more flickering now.
Did someone try to probe the pins of the cover port with a multimeter ? I have measured 5v and 3.3v as voltages, and i think it s correct, so thé cover type should be normally powered but nothing happens in bios or windows.

2021-04-21T01:11:56+00:00 I had the same problem before. After trying all steps that are mentioned in troubleshooting and google, it could not help. And then I got the solution. I should reset my laptop by choosing to delete all personal files. I have tried to reset but keep all personal files, it didn't work. So, I need to reset and chose de delete all personal files. The problem is solved for me. Happy now. I share my experience in my youtube video. Hope it useful for others.

2021-02-22T10:03:58+00:00 I decided to give up on the MS Cover and purchas the Brydge+ bluetooth keyboard. Had a few teething problems and had to send for a replacement due to a pairing issue, however, overall it is significantly better than the MS SP Cover in that it works.
