Surface Pro 4 type cover suddenly not working.

Not sure if this will be the same for everyone, but I managed to resolve mine by rolling back the firmware. Something Microsoft states in an article cannot be done. 

Go into the Device Manager and under the firmware heading double click on Surface UEFI. Go to the driver tab and there will be a button to go back to a previous driver. If that button is greyed out, head to Google and search for Surface Pro firmware (I can't link at the moment). There is an official MS page that has all the past updates. Find the last update for the Surface UEFI and do ANOTHER Google search for that specific firmware. 

I downloaded it and installed and it was already in place when I went to roll back, but you may have to roll it back on your machines. 

I wish I had found this before I spent hours on the phone with Microsoft only to have them ignore me when I told them it was the firmware update that killed the Type Cover.

I have seen some bluetooth keyboard on alibabaexpress they are bluetooth and has magnetic attachment

is thre  someone to buy and using this kind of keyboard? are they ok for using?

What is the best solution for keboard to survive ?

Sadly I dont use any now. When I have my Pc running and need something like a second monitor, I use the surface with mouse and keyboard sharing software. When I feel like saving some energy I hook up a mouse directly to it and use the onscreen keyboard.

As you imagine this is pretty tedious.

I have also considered getting a Bluetooth cover but the comments about inconsistent latency and a bad touchpad kept me from doing so.

If there was a cover with a usb wire, id take it. Bt one would need to charge anyway. Last resort would be trying a diy solution.

I hate that I need to think about any of this.

I've also tried this most recent Windows update, along with leaving it on but unattended without and with the Type Cover connected, and it's still dead.

Has anyone tried throwing their SP4 into a lake like a frisbee? I know it won't fix the Type Cover, but did you feel better?

So ive had my SP3 for years and I also had the typecover come and go a few times with updates but I switched to Linux about a year ago and havent had issues since. There is no doubt in my mind this is a software/firmware issue related to the Windows OS. While there are challenges with using Linux on mobile devices it does work. Luckily everything I need the Surface for I can accomplish in Linux. Really the only thing I miss is the full Outlook client. 

Its a shame Microsoft has all but abandonded any and all effort to maintain reliable software. They dont care they got your money and people keep buying their ****. Thats what you get for copying everything Apple does, including the bad. 

I haven't come to completely install Linux on my surface pro 3 yet, as I have no usb hub to do so (my screen cracked, so i would only be able to install it with a hub).

But what i have tried, was to install Ubuntu from inside of windows and my type cover didn't work then either.

Maybe it will look differently when I install it "correctly".

Did you have to do any more steps do get the type cover to work? What distro are you using? :)
