Surface Pro 4 type cover suddenly not working.

My only concern is how people handle with this problem ? I have read some people having this problem since 2015.

I lost my type cover almost 1 month ago, So problem is still exist with no solution on it.

I dont think Microsoft new version of firewall will fix this problem.

The problem isn't at software level as the keyboard isn't getting any power at all. It's a hardware issue being either the controller on the motherboard suddenly failing or therebeing damage on the connector between the keyboard and unit. The connector is the weak point as its on the folding point of the unit as well as frequent connects and disconnects wares the connector out over time.

It has already been demonstrated numerous times in a few threads in the forums that this is not a hardware problem as far as anything having to do with the connectors being damaged.  They're fine.  As has been repeatedly stated, the issue for most people come down to the firmware updates.  Right after they install, even when they appear to have installed correctly, there's a chance that it will no longer allow power to be sent to the keyboard or allow detection.   That doesn't mean the connector on the Surface or keyboard is damaged or needs cleaning, (though cleaning is a good easy first step when troubleshooting).  Since it's not any particular firmware update that causes it, people have been able to get their keyboards functioning again occasionally by getting a newer update or even plugging in a newer version of the keyboard.  Others have done the battery drain thing or left the keyboard unplugged for 24 hours.  Sometimes these methods have worked, but not always.  Age of the unit doesn't make a difference as it can happen even to newly-purchased Surface Pros with pristine connectors.  Yes, on some occasions the connector is the problem, other times it's the keyboard itself or a driver issue, but those are in the the minority of causes people have experienced in this thread.  The irritating part for most people is that this is Microsoft's own firmware, that they push via updates on their OS to their own hardware and they don't provide support for the issue if it happens out of warranty.  It's going to be a bit more annoying soon since Microsoft has announced they're closing all of their retail stores in favor of just a few Microsoft Experience locations soon.  So, soon, people who have stores near them now won't even be able to bring it in to have a tech diagnose it (not that they can always do so.  mine were stumped when it happened to me a year ago, but one had seen the issue before).  The only reason I even paid the $450 replacement option was that they gave me a newer, upgraded unit instead of the same exact model and config, which is what most people are offered.  And yet, I know this issue could still happen to me again.  I got a firmware update the other day and just hoped for the best.

Hello. Nothing new, but I have contacted the support in Germany.

In short my Surface history:

2016 Purchased my Pro 4 (i7/16GB/512GB) for 2000 € --> screen flicker problem

2018 I got a refurbished one short before 2 years guarantee ended (It felt like a new device).

2019 After 1 year touch cover issue, battery drains immediately, rotating sensor doesn't work.

until now tried everything but unsuccessfuly.

Support offers me to get a surface pro (5) as replacement for 640 €

Or get 185 € discount if I buy a pro 6 or 7.

Now I read in the pro5 thread about similar issues as with pro 4 (screen flicker).

Damn! What to do.

thanks for your comments, after reading your comments  I could not make it from device manager because of being gray button. when I search from Microsoft page it is written that we can not install previous version of any update or can not uninstalled them. I put the original words below.

Could you please inform me how you managed to go back to previous UEFI driver ?

Can you sen me an any link or adress that I can get from there ?

• Firmware updates can’t be uninstalled or reverted to an earlier version.
• When you install the latest update, you'll also get all the previous updates if your Surface doesn't have them already. Only updates that apply to Surface will be downloaded and installed.
