Surface Pro 4 type cover suddenly not working.

I don't know what happened. I turned my Surface Pro 4 on the other day and the type cover is dead. No lights. No response. No indication that it's working at all.  I rarely take my surface anywhere.

This started on July 9th 2018. My system information is below. I've gone through all of the steps in the "Troubleshoot your Surface Type Cover or keyboard" page. I've tried to manually download and install the latest firmware and drivers from the "Download firmware and drivers for surface" page. I picked SurfacePro4_Win10_16299_1801701_1.msi. My device manager does not show the "Surface Touch Cover Filter Device" under keyboards or anywhere. It only shows the HID keyboard and cannot detect my type cover. The type cover is completely unresponsive. Also, my windows updates are completely up to date. I've provided the links to the troubleshooting pages I used below.

So ive had my SP3 for years and I also had the typecover come and go a few times with updates but I switched to Linux about a year ago and havent had issues since. There is no doubt in my mind this is a software/firmware issue related to the Windows OS. While there are challenges with using Linux on mobile devices it does work. Luckily everything I need the Surface for I can accomplish in Linux. Really the only thing I miss is the full Outlook client.

Its a shame Microsoft has all but abandonded any and all effort to maintain reliable software. They dont care they got your money and people keep buying their ****. Thats what you get for copying everything Apple does, including the bad.

I have latest driver pack installed, but for the 3rd try unable to install 2004 update so type cover is still dead. Update returns code which is not explained anywhere. No workaround, no solution. So in total 7 month without keyboard, million of lost hours trying everything and Microsoft doesn't care.

With buying Surface I thought it is great idea to have computer and OS from the same company but couldn't be more WRONG.

Clearly MS is not able to make things right or running. Losers. Bad idea to have one version of OS while they have million issues EVERY update. This is fatal failure. Ignoring issue which affects 37 000 users is actual business model. Now I know how much effort HP and other companies has to spent fixing MS's bugs. This was last drop. I give up. I hope every MS employee is proud how good job they do every day.

This is great to hear. I thought the problem might be caused by update to Win 10 ver. 1909 and I was waiting to ver. 2004 which can fix it. For me it seems the problem with type cover is combination of Windows update and Intel driver migration error...

Unfortunately for me I'm not able to update to ver. 2004. I tried twice and ended with error 0xc0000005. Does anyone know meaning of this error? Do you have the same situation?

Sorry to hear your type cover was not detected.

I checked that I had the latest updates here:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4023482/surface-download-drivers-and-firmware

I had installed the Windows 10 version 2004 update on June 20 Then, on June 23, I removed the type cover, left the tablet plugged into power and OS logged-in overnight to June 24 morning. When I physically reconnected the type cover, I could type again after over 2 months without it working.

Below i have pasted my event log corresponding to the type cover driver being "migrated" on June 24(at 4:09am localtime)
