Surface Pro 4 type cover suddenly not working.

I don't know what happened. I turned my Surface Pro 4 on the other day and the type cover is dead. No lights. No response. No indication that it's working at all.  I rarely take my surface anywhere.

This started on July 9th 2018. My system information is below. I've gone through all of the steps in the "Troubleshoot your Surface Type Cover or keyboard" page. I've tried to manually download and install the latest firmware and drivers from the "Download firmware and drivers for surface" page. I picked SurfacePro4_Win10_16299_1801701_1.msi. My device manager does not show the "Surface Touch Cover Filter Device" under keyboards or anywhere. It only shows the HID keyboard and cannot detect my type cover. The type cover is completely unresponsive. Also, my windows updates are completely up to date. I've provided the links to the troubleshooting pages I used below.

then there's other problems that might need fixing. in the thread above, i think someone mentioned the driver updates. I think all of the accumulation of fixes in one way or another is affecting the overall solution.

I totally agree that microsoft should fix and there are many who lament over this issue, but i doubt they'll do something about it.

i also saw a post that says that SP-5-6-7 doesn't/will not have such an issue... I am not sure about that.

But for me, its SP-3 (i5) and its definitely having an issue. My brother's SP-3 (i7) also had issues.

my boss uses SP-4 (i5) so far so good. I know many others uses sp-4, but have not heard issues yet with SP-4. I have had the impression that keyboard problems happens only on sp-3.

Anyway, we ought to keep this thread alive till 2-years from now so that we can see if the issue spreads over to sp-5. If so, yes indeed, that Microsoft Surface Pro has an inherent problem with this keyboard thingy...

this fix used to solve the problem with my surface pro issue, then out of the blue one fine day again, the rotation approach did not solve my problem when the keyboard is not detected. I knew for sure it solved the last time and i also made a video for it. I'll upload and use it for reference based on older patch/firmware version.

Did you try the flipping of the surface pro without the rotation lock, and let it change its screen orientation, and then setting it back to landscape and see if the changes in orientation fixes the keyboard detection?

    It did not

Nothing ever worked for me. NOTHING!! Tried many many many ways, the type cover didnt come to life. Though it works well with other S4. Guess the tablet itself is the cause. Been using blue tooth keyboard ever since, almost a year plus now. AND NOW, the screen flicker if i keep using more than an hour. My solution, I WILL BIN my S4 Pro soon! I will NEVER AGAIN buy from them. Its a DISASTER! I will get a 2-1 Dell or HP.

Funny you should ask... my screen won't rotate. Rotation Lock is off, but the screen stays landscape no matter what i do, whether the Type Cover is attached or not.
