How to disable or remove Copilot from Word (there is a solution - check 2nd edit)

Frustrating, BUT...eventually found online chat, that provides remote service, where they control computer to fix. Watching I was g=boggled by all the steps that are taken. I could not have done it alone. But in end, they deleted the version wiht CoPilot, replaced wiht previous versionall sorted. No more CoPilot !!!!

So far I have failed completely to replace my Microsoft 365 Family subscription with a Microsoft 365 Classic Family subscription in order to remove Copilot.

I chatted with support who disabled my auto renewal, but I could not see where to subscribe to MS 365 Classic Family.

2 days later I chatted to support again who directed my to the Microsoft Store.

MS 365 Classic Family is not visible to me there either!

So they gave me to sales phone number 1800 267 785 (I am in Australia).

Calling the sales number the robot asks if my request is home or business, asks what I want and then reads out (and texts) the url for support.microsoft.com where I can renew my exisiting subscription!

When I ring back to try to ask the robot to let me talk to a person it won’t give me the chance and just rabbits back the same url.

Whatever happened to customer service?

It will give you that option if you go to cancel your subscription.

I should have noted as I did it... But I logged in and went to

• "My Microsoft Account" (drop down from clicking the icon next to my account name, top right).
• "Subscriptions" - Manage
• The I did one of the two options shown with arrows below - I think I had an option to change subscription where mine now says "Don't switch...". Otherwise, I'm sure you can trigger an option to change plans if you hid the "Cancel Subscription" option.

Yes, and thank you. I've just changed my subscription to Classic (without AI) – which only shows up as an option if you go to Cancel subscription. And it has reverted to the $139 rather than $179 it would have charged. BUT my subscription rolls over 15 July so I have another 8 months to find another option.

I haven't been able to revert to an earlier version as the instructions are for Windows and I'm on a Mac. Can anyone advise how to do that on Mac?

After calling again from a different phone number I was able convince the robot to pass me on to a real person.

It appeared to be a manual process to cancel my existing subscription (I lost 4 days of subscription) and replace it with Microsoft 365 Family Classic at $139 AUD per annum.

It sounds as though the Microsoft Store and account.microsoft.com will be updated sometime to include the Classic version.

I still hate the robot.

This has made Word absolutely unusable. I cannot even open a document without invasive, offensive AI being pushed onto me. I cannot use this software unless I am given the opportunity to fully disable Copilot. This must be fixed immediately.
