How to disable or remove Copilot from Word (there is a solution - check 2nd edit)

I went to my account, and clicked on where it says 'manage' under the name of my subscription (Microsoft 365 Family). I wanted to change from auto-renewing to manual but when I clicked on this, it automatically came up with an option to choose the Family Classic rather than stop auto-renewing. I guess they don't want people to stop this as they might 'forget' or not renew at all. As I wrote, though, it doesn't come into effect until my sub is due for renewal in June next year. I haven't been able to find an option to change to the Classic immediately.

Unfortunately, as my current subscription runs until June next year, I have to put up with the AI until then. Wouldn't it be great if MS gave us the option to immediately change to a non-Copilot set of software? Or, better still, hadn't automatically added it without asking first??!!! (I'm in Australia.)

I would not use MS if I didn't work as a proofreader and have to use it because everyone else does and every document I receive is in Word. I am not tech savvy and don't have the confidence to try the options for uninstalling and so forth in case they go drastically wrong. Thanks for causing so many headaches to so many of us, Microsoft! <angry face>

Where did it give you the option to change to classic? I have tried multiple times but i never see an option to change to classic.

I think I have found the solution sort of.

I saw something that said Microsoft had launched CoPilot and it was free to the primary account holder, I have a 5 user licence but I was using the one email account for both computers, my daughter had a different email account for her shared copy she isn't having problem.

I set up another Microsoft account uninstalled Office completely from my computer then reinstalled it, Now I have office on the backup computer with the problem still there, and Office using the new account on the main coputer with no problems

The sort of comes from the fact if you only have a single site licence you have CoPilot whether you want is or not, which from what I have read is causing problems with Uni Students, they are failing Modules & exams (or whatever they are called now) because they are using AI which aparantly is an automatic fail in somecircumstances.

Thanks for this. I had considered that solution also, as I have a multi-user licence too, hoping that my backup laptop might not have Copilot but as it still uses my email address for the account name, Copilot is still there. Would I need to set up a different email address to switch the account to there on the laptop only and keep my current email address on the desktop as a secondary user?

I'm just finishing my honours thesis, not as big as a PhD, but this is the dumbest most irresponsible roll out ever. Every single student is at risk at the moment.
