OneDrive Personal Vault cannot unlock, error code 0x8004db90

I haven't been able to access my OneDrive Personal Vault in the past few days. I've tried multiple ways (PC, iOS app, webpage) but none works -

  • on the iOS app, it prompted me to setup personal vault even though I've done the setup a long time ago. After completing authentication, the app popped up with "Unable to complete Personal Vault setup, please try again in a few minutes". I tried removing the app and started fresh and that didn't help.
  • on webpage, after authentication, it popped up saying "There was a problem unlocking your Personal Vault". I tried both Edge and Chrome and got the same results.
  • on PC, onedrive can't unlock my personal vault, and popped up with error code 0x8004db90. I tried unlinking onedrive and relinking it and that didn't help.

Overall this feels like an authentication issue but somehow only affects personal vault access.. If anyone has any suggestions I'd greatly appreciate it!

    Thank you, Renato!

    This solution worked for me.

However, I did not get a prompt for Restoring Files. And the contents of the Personal Vault are gone.

Luckily, I had a back of the contents in the Personal Vault.

    All,

I still do not have access. I see posts of ppl stating they have access. A lot of others still don't. MICROSOFT has let their paying customers down. I have canceled my Onedrive. I am now using Google Drive and backing up on a portable drive. Luckily I had backed up 90% of my things. Lesson for everyone. Time to move on from MICROSOFT.

As of September 9, my vault has been unable to be unlocked, and interestingly looking at OneDrive on my android phone, it keeps asking me to set it up. I spoke with MS support earlier who confirmed that this is a known issue and that their technicians are trying to resolve the situation as quickly as possible, so I guess I have no alternative other than to sit and wait... tick, tock...

    Hello Tracy,

so you want to say, that for over a month and you have done nothing about this.

It is a premium feature that we pay for, but it doesn't work for over a month? Is that what you saying?

I have files which I can't work with, you advertised it's a nice and safe feature, except you forgot to mention that it doesn't work sometimes for over a month.

So please do your job, write to your system architects and do something about it.

    Thank you
