How to disable copilot on microsoft office (excel, word, ppt) on Macbook

there is no option to disable it there ... co-pilot is a major issue for many of us, i don't want to have to find alternatives to the 365 but if you don't give us the option of binning it if we choose and not have it come back with every update, i won't have any option.

honestly, you people do not ever interact with normal folks who are interested in functional software and want nothing to do with AI.

I went to cancel Microsoft a couple weeks ago and was given an option for two free months to stay (no thanks). Also there was an option to 'downgrade' back to 'classic' (for the same price as before). It's basically what we were using until the unwanted intrusion of Copilot.

I then had to wait until 28th for the change to occur.

Today (29th in NZ), I am free of Copilot!

The annoying little character on Word has disappeared.

I am free!

So if you can't see the option to go back to 'classic' (I don't remember seeing it at first), click to cancel your subscription and you should see it then.

Bonus: no increase in price, either.

The only way (apparently) to down-grade your sub is to "Cancel" it. When you do opt to 'cancel' you will see new options and can then down-grade. I am too scared to do this yet, as I now have minuscule trust in MS and can imagine horrible things happening--but others have done this and are awaiting the no-frills version without copilot. I might try it the day before my current sub expires--or something. In the meantime Im hoping Microsoft will just remove or allow disable of Copilot based on so much customer frustration and anger.

This is an absolute disgrace!

I don't want that Copilot icon constantly appearing on my Word documents, on every new line, whenever I highlight something - it's VERY annoying!!!

And I don't want the icon in my Ribbon either - now I can't easily use "Heading 2" because there is no room for it on the Ribbon, now that Copilot is taking up important space on the Ribbon.

I pay my yearly MS subscription and you go and do this to me!

I'll be cancelling my subscription before the next rebill if you don't fix this $@&#.

And to top it off a Microsoft 365 Family subscription has just gone up from $140 per year to $180 per year! (Australia)

Thanks for trying. I wasted a day yesterday trying to get rid of Copilot. It is total BS.

Microsoft staff can only suggest suggest unsubscribing and reverting to an older version of the software! Imagine what could go wrong! Then, future updates will be necessary for functionality and will likely bring Copilot back (unless MS wakes up to the problem this is for many people). Copilot should be opt-in, not opt out (and opting-out means a whole lot of work with no guarantees of future functionality).

I do not pay Microsoft for an Office sub to have them 'help' me by gleaning my data, 'learning from me', and appearing (as an annoying icon) on each line of my intellectual property/work. There are also enormous legal ramifications for students and academic writers who have no desire to 'cheat' by allowing AI to write or organize their work.

And for those of us currently writing creative texts/fiction, that Copilot icon in the margin of each line is unbelievably awful. And I certainly do not want Microsoft contributing to or mining my work in any way at all.

Microsoft must remove Copilot from user accounts which did not opt in.
