How to disable copilot on microsoft office (excel, word, ppt) on Macbook

SUCCESS!!!

To all frustrated respondents to this post, I have found a way to turn it off!!!!

It is in this article: Copilot in Microsoft 365 apps for home: Your data and privacy

At the bottom, under "Your Privacy Settings and CoPilot" is listed what you need to do:

i.e.: Open any of Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, or OneNote

Click File then select Account (at the bottom, above Feedback and Options)

On your Account page, under Account Privacy click the Manage Settings button

Then, under "Connected Experiences" you need to turn off:

• Experiences that analyse content, and
• All connected experiences

Click OK

You will be warned about all the bells and whistles you're going to miss out on, but its so easy to turn on and off, you could, for instance, turn them off, write and submit your thesis, then turn them on again?

There is some semblance of control after all!

I only use Excel and Word but CoPilot is no longer interupting my edits in either!

I turned off "experiences that analyse content", however I had to turn back on the "all connected experiences" because otherwise I couldn't load files stored on onedrive.

Copilot is now sitting in the the ribbon in word and excel and I can't remove it without removing Editor. So in effect I cannot turn off copilot and there's an annoying prompt every time I start a new line of text in Word.

It's extremely rude of Microsoft not to have copilot optional. I didn't ask for it and I want it removed altogether.

I have family 365. It's so infuriating. I have tried all the suggestions so far, and none worked. Microsoft, Google and Apple are all guilty of forcing stupid 'features' on users.

The other super annoying and persistent 'feature' of OneDrive is 'For You' which shows random photos from your account whenever you open the app on a PC or phone. Who doesn't have pics they don't want suddenly on display for anyone in eyesight?

I totally agree. I'm an editor, and this is utterly unacceptable. I think, if a uni student fails due to this, there should be court proceedings where you sue MS for all costs associated with the degree as well as time spent and lost wages due to a loss of PhD. Maybe the financial burden, if every student did this, would be enough to restrict MS from their egotistical need to place themselves in our homes as we research and write.

Yes, I am Windows , but there are also MacOS instructions too!

In any of 365 excel, oneNote, powerpoint or word (don't use outlook, there are complications!) from your menu, select preferences then privacy and turn off the offending experiences there:

Click on the privacy settings link I've highlighted (above) and you'll find your Mac option:

It should not be this hard to opt out!!

I am in the same situation and I'm furious that there seems to be no way to remove Copilot. I do not want AI ANYWHERE near my work!
