I just more or less did that as well, and it worked; what I didn't do was reboot.

Added: I'm on Win 11 Pro and use the Office 365 Home Subscription, paid annually.

I have to confess that I am a bit lost in the thread.

Besides my act of God, has anyone find anything that works that does not require go to a previous version and stop updates?

Before my last Online Repair (did two of them for this update), I disabled the Privacy Settings, rebooted and then re-enabled all of them except the Send Me Ads one, rebooted again and then did another Online Repair. After that, everything seems to now be working correctly.

OK. I need to get this straight.

    1. You disabled the Privacy Settings FIRST, rebooted and then did an Online Repair.
    2. Immediately after the first repair, you re-enabled all (except Ads), rebooted again, and did another Online Repair.

    Is that the correct sequence?

I really never use the Help, but thought to check it after someone else had a problem here. On the other two machines that update properly, Help works fine. I'm wondering if there might be a correlation here.

As just one datapoint, Help works properly on my machines but Update does not.

Now I'm totally confused. I just did another Online Repair and now everything is working properly. The last Online Repair installed the new version, but did not resolve the problems. This one retained the same new version, but now the update button seems to be working and Help seems to be working. I'm not going to argue with success, even when it makes no sense.

Check your Office settings and make sure that the Options > General > Privacy Settings.. screen has the "All connected experiences" option enabled so that you can then enable the "Experiences that download online content" option. (These are the steps for my Office 2016 Professional Plus running on Windows 10.) This should allow you to access the online Help system.

That was the first thing I checked and it was selected.
