I have to confess that I am a bit lost in the thread.

Besides my act of God, has anyone find anything that works that does not require go to a previous version and stop updates?

I've been following very closely and it appears as if it either works or it doesn't (obviously some users have a machine (or more) that works and another (or others) that do work - and no one can seem to figure out the difference or variation).

I find this particularly confounding because I have two identical systems, both with MS 365, and have changed NOTHING, either with respect to system settings or Office settings; updates just stopped working on the same day on both machines, throwing that 30088-27 error.

I was able to update to the latest version using the elevated command prompt but using the Update Now button results in the 30088-27 error.

Check your Office settings and make sure that the Options > General > Privacy Settings.. screen has the "All connected experiences" option enabled so that you can then enable the "Experiences that download online content" option. (These are the steps for my Office 2016 Professional Plus running on Windows 10.) This should allow you to access the online Help system.

Great tip. I find it somewhat strange that the steps allow online Help to be accessed without issue, yet they do not to resolve the 30088-27 error.

Well, just tried an online repair just to see if anything changed. I was surprised, it actually updated to the new version. Version 2407 (Build 17830.20138)

So did the check for updates and, damn, no error message. Office is up to date.

Now, while this did not throw the error when checking, the question remains (for me anyway), will it update on the next release?

Think it might but, again, it's MS. Thoughts anyone?

Regarding the Help issue - I'm no longer getting the GP error on the machine affected by the update problem, but now it says that the service required for it is turned off. Does anyone know what service is required to be turned on? I haven't had time to compare the active services on that machine with one of the others and I'm not sure I have the patience to go through the list of services on two machines to find the difference.
