Hi. I had some folders shared from different users in my OneDrive account. I had added the folders to my OneDrive with Add Shortcut to OneDrive button from Shared folders in cloud. The account is logged into a windows pc and every files including the folders shared with my were syncing fine until yesterday. Yesterday night the shared folders were completely removed from the Windows pc and folders are replaced with internet shortcut. This is such a big mess. I have tried unlinking the account and linking it back, changing the location of OneDrive on my windows pc and tried to get a new folder shared to my account and adding it to OneDrive. Nothing works so far. OneDrive has a big part in my daily activities. Please help me resolve this.

Here is the statement from the Microsoft OneDrive product group (Redmond USA) about the OneDrive Personal problem:

***This is related to a backend migration we are doing and unfortunately, we don’t fully support syncing shared folders in the case where one user has migrated and the other has not. We’re doing everything possible to accelerate things so that it can be resolved as soon as possible for users of the feature. When the accounts are migrated, there is automated logic that makes them go back to a syncing folder within several days.***I have heard, that shared Folder issue is gone.
The best thing is: WAIT and do nothing

What would happen if one if you were to list competitors in this conversation offering a better service for less money? Would this topic still be ignored after that? 🤔

They should just change the sharing feature to the new behavior for everybody. If we want something good we should pay enough and have a professional grade solution.

The problem is creating an expectation that we can rely on their service, then pull this on us without notice, so we can decide if we want to continue paying them 120 dollars per year or not.

That would also give us time to quickly move our files to folders not within OneDrive's folder structure and go below the 1 TB limit BEFORE they nuked our files without any warning.

What's next? Will they just delete our files in the cloud without warning too? Maybe they should. We trusted them to much when they're clearly not giving a **** about us. Otherwise they'd be here, apologetic and aware and telling us if they want to fix it or if this is how their "new system" is supposed to (not) work.

Ensh*tification is currently so bad they don't even bother telling us to **** ourselves. They just ignore us because they have another 90 people still paying and entirely unaware of what's happening.

They want customers that give them money without actually using their services. "Set and forget". Most companies are doing the same, annoying the customers that use most of their services as much as possible by breaking things, so we leave and they're left with the most compliant and profitable consumers that only have a handful of pictures and videos they took with their phones and that sometimes pay extra when their apps tell them they're running out of their 1 TB of space, entirely unaware they can just add another 5 accounts with 1 TB of storage each without paying a single extra cent.

    Sorry for ranting.

I tested the ‘migration-to-newInfrastructure’ theory: account get migrated to a new infrastructure and when that happens the shared folders on not-migrated accounts become shortcuts.

I took 2 accounts which I suspected to have the imaginary migration completed, and shared folders between them. Result: shares were real shares again, synced to the local drive.

That supports what others reported: creating a new accounts and start over.

The only thing is that creating new accounts and copying data back and forth takes a lot time and is not feasible for me.

My hope is that the rest of the accounts gets migrated very very soon to that [maybe] new infrastructure. But maybe all of my findings are just coincidence.

That's NOT the only problem. Some people in this conversation say new accounts are being created in the OLD server.

If that's the case, they'll be migrated gradually at random moments in the future, meaning we'll lose the connection again.

It's almost as if they were doing it this way to prevent everybody from doing this to solve their problem. 😬

We should have a button on "old" accounts we can click to be prioritized for migration and there should be something that makes it clear at which server each account is.

I hope that this slow/incompetent migration theory is correct - HOWEVER a whole raft of us users first experienced this problem in JUNE 2024 and it is STILL NOT RESOLVED. That’s an unbelievably slow migration.

We have largely given up. Another angle for you to consider, those impacted early on were almost all MAC users — which of course Microsoft ignored. So I would treat this migration idea as the theory it is. More likely they broke code down in the bowels and don’t have the expertise on staff anymore to find it let alone fix it.

This sounds as a good solution, if it were something they told us all, publicly. Jus tell us that shared folders will be url links from now on. I don't f*cking care anymore. I am sick of being treated like an entitled Karen when asking for very BASIC service.

If I were running their show I would break ALL shares and kick out the 20% people who use them out.

I'd cut on bandwidth costs and dump my worst customers.

I don't know why they just don't own what they're doing, but choose to act as if they can't see it.

I am pretty sure a topic like this was seen at least by one relevant enough person. Yet, they're laughing at us, rightfully. We're stupid poor people who can't afford our own solutions and rely on them, expecting good service for 10 dollars a month.

Did you know they have "health information clauses" surrounding our medical information backed up in the cloud that they can sell for profit, besides other things, as if this were a f*cking free service???????????

Shame on them for doing this and shame on us for being too tired to read those terms (and updates).

We are doomed if we use their services. They own us and they can call us their b*tches. And we'll gladly accept the label if that means cheap cloud storage. We deserve it too, I am including myself.
