Folders Shared with me are syncing as internet shortcut in OneDrive on Windows PC

It's seems

• the issue arises for stakeholders who can WRITE but are not the onwer of the shared folder
• in the moment when the folder desappears from the local device, the folder becomes first locked (and if you are changing a file, it is created a folder-USER on your PC) and then the link created at the place of the folder, lands online on a page with a blinking "Folder is empty" and "user was migrated"

No way to have a planned date for the resolution, no way to know if the "Development" dep is commetted in looking for it.

By claim refers also the fact that I bought (And still paying) a service with some conditions which now are not the same. Now I would choose a different provider

Thanks everyone for weighing in - I am the only one creating notebooks, editing and saving so Carlotta's situation isn't the only one where this is an issue. I've stopped using One Note because I'm worried about privacy issues now - I want to know where my files are!!

Mine is the simplest situation - I want to create, save, and have access to Notebooks all the time on my laptop, using One Drive just as a backup. This must be too much to ask.....

Just checked this morning and everything still needs to be accessed as an "Internet Shortcut"

...there also doesn't seem to be a way to create a new notebook unless you're working online....even if trying to create on on "This PC". Please correct me if someone knows how to do this. I tried creating one in each of these option locations but got error messages each time.

When I am connected online, I am able to create notebooks but they end up as "Internet Shortcut" type files.

With paid Microsoft subscriptions are we not paying for access to the OneNote software - both on and offline, just like Word, PPT and Excel???

Ah, I thought so.

Furthermore, I don't want only the 'shortcuts' back on my drive. I want the actual files back on my drive. (that is the actual problem...the physical files have been removed from your drive and are now only accessible via the webbrowser)

(this applies only for shared folders which you are not the 'owner')

So sad to hear you are already dealing with this since jun-2024! (For me it started just this weekend)

I've had the same problem. Just started yesterday, but for some reason the shared folders became duplicate local folders, with the PC name appended to them. They then uploaded to my OneDrive, exceeding my storage space. The original shared folders now appear as shortcut files.

I followed the uninstall, reinstall options, but to no avail. And then I checked my two other PCs with the same OneDrive account connected, and found exactly the same problem. So it cannot be PC specific, but OneDrive account specific. Very frustrating.

I'm hoping MS will fix my account very soon, as I've lost access to a huge amount of folders, and I've had to buy an additional 1TB of storage just to have any chance of resolving the duplicated folder issue.

I can confirm this. Also on my PC and Mac the Shared Folders turned into local copies with the computer name attached to it and at the same time tuned into URLs instead of really shared folders.

same, also faced similar issue. the folder became renamed with "initialname(with numbers now)" and when trying to rename to initial folder names.. it says name exists and failed.

shared link for photo albums also doesnt seem to be loading now.

are these issues going to be fixed by MS? like rollout an update for the Onedrive app?

not sure why are we paying for family plans and is not cheap for a year..
